Our client is a NSW government agency that partners with communities and all tiers of government to manage, plan for and expand large open spaces and parklands
The agency currently brings together, in a combined administration, several independent park agencies and trusts.
Role Description:
Provide accounting services and advice to the agency, primarily in the area of financial accounting; including delivery of accurate and timely monthly and annual statutory financial information, preparation and review of monthly general ledger reconciliations and Treasury reporting and returns
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the general ledger including journal preparation, monthly ledger reconciliations and ensuring the general ledger reconciles to relevant supporting sub ledgers such as payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable and fixed assets
- Implement processes to ensure completeness of accruals and other journals to ensure monthly financial results accurately reflect underlying business performance
- Establish and maintain bank accounts; ensuring banking information including signatories are up to date, investigate and drive clearance of aged bank reconciliation items and implement process improvements to improve timely identification and matching of cash receipts and payments.
- Responsible for reviewing the Capital Work In Progress ledger balance on a monthly basis and proactively working with the business to ensure items are capitalised and depreciated in a timely manner once the work is complete.
- Assist with monthly Board and the Audit Risk and Compliance Committee (ARCC) reporting and commentary.
- Annual statutory financial statement preparation with support from the broader Finance team and act as a primary audit contact for the NSW Audit Office.
- Prepare relevant taxation information (including GST, FBT, Payroll Tax) for Treasury, the governing department and government bodies as required.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and process improvements as required and implementing audit recommendations to ensure the integrity of the financial accounting information.
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years accountancy experience in an enterprise or government environment
- Experience in statutory reporting and preparation of financial statements
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations and commercial accounting practices relating to government organisations
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications
- Eligible for or progress towards membership in a recognised professional accounting body
- Audit experience an advantage (for checking financial statements)
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant finance, accounting or business discipline
- Strong skills in ERP finance systems
- Excel skills (pivot tables etc)
- Experience in NSW government an advantage
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills
