About the role:

We are looking for an organised and diligent Planning Officer – Statutory to be primarily responsible for the assessment of planning applications, including development applications, subdivision applications, scheme amendments and structure plans, with assistance from senior officers. The permanent full-time role is required to assist with research, consultation and analysis of strategic and policy related planning issues and assist with developing appropriate solutions to these with strategies for implementation through the Town Planning Scheme or Council Policy.

The position involves stakeholder and internal liaison, good analytical and reporting skills, provision of planning advice across all elements of planning and management of direct reports.

Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide sound professional and technical advice to the Manager Statutory Planning, and other department staff. Provides advice to Council, staff the community and industry on planning matters under necessary guidance
  • Undertake the assessment of standard planning applications, typically without assistance; receives assistance from senior officers on unusual or complex or new matters
  • Assist to ensure that Statutory Planning services and activities of the section are innovative and delivered in accordance with commercial management principles and best practice
  • Assist in the implementation of process improvement working in a team to ensure the improvements are consistent with defined and clear organisation requirements
  • Contribute (as directed) to relevant public and agency meetings as required, achieving the determined required outcomes.
  • Fulfil the delegated statutory duties prescribed in the Local Government Act
  • Deal directly and promptly with internal and external customers, typically handling all standard matters, seeking assistance from Senior Officers where required
  • Assist and support the Manager Statutory Planning and Coordinator – Statutory Planning in the day to day management and operations of the planning functions
  • Assist with research, consultation and analysis of strategic and policy related planning issues, and assist with developing appropriate solutions to these with strategies for implementation through the Town Planning Scheme or Council Policy

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Graduate qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or related field
  • Experience in a similar statutory planning position
  • Sound knowledge of town planning practice, principles and legislation
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • A satisfactory National Police Certificate is required

The salary for this position will be from $91,194.72 - $108,194.90 per annum, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
