About the Role:
The Regulatory Officer position enables the Shire to fulfill its regulatory compliance obligations through coordination and administration of the Shire’s risk management activities. This includes Work Health and Safety, bush fire and local emergency management, insurance claims, and other general administration support of a higher level.
Temporary Full Time - Monday to Friday 38 hours
Requirements of the role include:
Customer Service
Develop and maintain respectful, professional relationships with internal and external customers
Respond promptly and courteously to customer enquiries
Proactively identify and address customer needs
Regulatory Control & Administration
Under the general direction of the Chief Executive Officer:
Coordinate bush fire brigade support, including volunteer training, PPE procurement, equipment servicing, and fire break inspections
Organise Bush Fire Advisory Committee and Local Emergency Management Committee meetings
Ensure timely submission of the Local Government Grant Scheme application and Emergency Services Levy acquittal
Act as the primary liaison with the Shire’s external IT provider
Coordinate tenders and RFQs in line with procurement policies
Manage dog and cat registration renewals and facilitate communication with contract ranger services
Disseminate harvest ban information and maintain the SMS notification register
Assist with reviews of Local Laws, ensuring compliance and engagement through to Gazettal
Provide administrative support to the Environmental Health Officer, Building Surveyor, and Planning Consultant
Serve as the main contact for local cemeteries, coordinating documentation and site works
Prepare and submit various annual reports in compliance with legislative and organisational requirements
General Administration & Miscellaneous
Foster a sense of teamwork and shared responsibility within the administration team
Undertake additional duties as directed by the CEO, within the scope of the role and award classification
Manage all fleet and property insurance claims, including lodgement and coordination with insurers
About you:
You are a highly organised and adaptable professional with strong time management, communication, and problem-solving skills. You work effectively in a team under general direction, respond well to changing circumstances, and make sound decisions to ensure efficient service delivery. You bring knowledge of local government-managed bush fire brigades or a willingness to learn, and you’re familiar with relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, experience in risk management, and a solid understanding of safe work practices are essential. Ideally, you can also interpret complex legislation, hold relevant tertiary qualifications, and have experience developing and implementing local laws.
