About the area

The Australian Herbicide Resistance Initiative (AHRI) is a national research and communication team based at the University of Western Australia. AHRI research focuses on crop and weed science, and herbicide resistance in the Australian grains industry, having received major investment from the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC). AHRI’s mantra is “More crop, fewer weeds – sustainably”. To fulfil this, we conduct research and extension to encourage sustainable cropping and weed control across Australia.

About the opportunity

  • Undertake high quality research into the management of weeds and herbicide resistance in Australian cropping systems
  • Focus will be on herbicides for weed control, within the context of integrated weed management (IWM
  • Publish research in international journals and present research results at peer conferences and at grains industry workshops, seminars and field days.

About you

  • PhD in weed science or agronomy/crop science
  • A demonstrable track record in excellence in research evidenced by peer-reviewed journal articles published in high quality journals, relative to opportunity
  • Engage with a network of contacts with local, national and international organisations for the purposes of research collaboration and the enhancement of the reputation of AHRI, the School and the University
