About the Role

In this role, you will contribute to advancing research that supports evidence-informed alcohol and drug policy. Working within a collaborative team, you will coordinate an evaluation project, contribute to academic publications, and engage with a range of stakeholders to ensure research findings make a tangible impact. Your work will span project coordination, participant recruitment, data analysis, report writing and publication contributions and the development of a focused research program aligned with NDRI’s mission.

Leadership and Service

  • Help foster a supportive, inclusive, and collaborative research culture within the Institute and across the University.
  • Participate in academic service, such as contributing to committees, internal projects, and collaborative initiatives.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders including professional bodies, government agencies, research partners, and community organisations.
  • Represent the Institute and Curtin University in relevant academic, professional, and community settings.

Research

  • Coordinate research projects and assist project leads with all related project activities, with a particular focus on evaluating the reliability and validity of novel approaches to data collection in the alcohol research field.
  • Manage research project ethics and recruitment processes, liaise with key partners to develop innovative approaches to online recruitment.
  • Conduct both qualitative and quantitative research, including developing data extraction queries, performing and interpreting analyses, and drafting reports and research publications.
  • Develop a coherent and impactful program of research aligned with NDRI’s mission.
  • Share your findings through a wide range or forums including publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at conferences, NDRI webinars and other opportunities for dissemination as they arise.
  • Supervise and support Honours, Master’s, and PhD students in their research projects.
  • Contribute to grant writing and applications for competitive research funding, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Where required, contribute to research-led teaching and learning.
  • Assist with research-related administration, including ethics applications, project administration, project planning, and reporting to funders.

SELECTION CRITERIA
We are looking for

  • A doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. public health, health sciences, epidemiology, psychology, sociology).
  • Evidence of a strong track record of research outputs in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals/outlets relevant to the discipline.
  • Demonstrated impact and quality of research outputs, including journal rankings, citation metrics, patents, and/or recognition by peers, as appropriate to the field.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and manage both quantitative and qualitative research, including high level of competency in data extraction, data cleaning and preparation, conducting a range of statistical analyses using statistical programmes (e.g. STATA, R, SPSS), and drafting scholarly papers.
  • Evidence of high-level written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and liaise effectively with external project partners and funders.

Desirable

  • Experience supervising higher degree research (HDR) students.
  • Experience with developing and conducting and online survey
  • Experience using novel technological solutions to data collection and analysis, including large language model
  • A history of successful competitive grant applications.
