Are you passionate about enabling impactful research and supporting academic success? Curtin University is seeking a dynamic and strategic Research Development Advisor to join our Faculty of Health Sciences.
About the Role
In this role, you will help our researchers identify competitive state, national, and international funding opportunities and guide them through the grant application process. You will be instrumental in strengthening Curtin’s research capability by advising on proposal development, mentoring early and mid-career researchers on grant strategies, and assisting researchers at all career stages to secure funding from under-utilised sources.
This is your opportunity to play a key role in advancing health research with real-world impact. You will work closely with our researchers to uncover and capitalise on competitive funding opportunities - particularly those beyond the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). Your expertise will help shape the future of health innovation in Australia.
You will:
- Provide strategic support to the Dean of Research and academic leaders on funding opportunities and research development.
- Identify and promote funding opportunities and help develop Curtin’s research strategy direction.
- Collaborate across Curtin’s network of Research Development Advisors to enhance support services for all researchers.
- Design and deliver workshops, training, and mentoring on grant writing and research strategy.
- Assist researchers in planning and preparing strong, competitive funding proposals.
- Facilitate cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional research collaborations.
- Strengthen partnerships with internal and external stakeholders including industry, government, and community.
- Track and support major research bids from idea through to funding success.
SELECTION CRITERIA
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications
- A relevant postgraduate or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive experience in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
- Demonstrated high-level understanding of grant processes in a research environment, together with a solid understanding of metrics of success in research applications.
- Highly developed verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal & external stakeholders at all levels and with cross cultural sensitivity.
- High-level written communication skills with demonstrated ability to understand and present complex academic content in a clear and concise manner.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills, and the ability to lead initiatives and manage complex programs in a multi-institutional framework.
- Demonstrated high-quality research facilitation skills, and proven ability to provide high-level conceptual and analytical advice.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively within a small team, and to communicate effectively with both internal & external stakeholders at all levels and with cross cultural sensitivity.
Desirable:
- Experience in applying for and securing grant funding.
Role Requirements
As this is a permanent contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.
