Career Employment Australia are currently recruiting for a residential worker to supervise young adults residing in accommodation provided through the Indigenous Youth Mobility Pathways Project (IYMP). IYMP assists young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from remote regions to relocate to Darwin to undertake Vocational courses, University studies and Australian Apprenticeships.
The residential worker is responsible for teaching and assisting IYMP students to undertake domestic tasks including:
Cooking
Cleaning
Laundry
Creating and following meal plans
Creating and following chores rosters
Maintaining outdoor areas and gardens
Developing grocery lists; and
Facilitating a variety of recreational and cultural events
The residential house parent must have the skill and ability to:
provide daily transport
undertake grocery shopping
complete regular risk assessments
teach all areas of skills for Independent living
provide mentoring and general guidance to students
conduct weekly house meeting
participate in recreation and cultural events
promote leadership and create a sense of belonging among students
observe student behaviours and provide weekly reports to education staff
work as a team to gain the best possible outcomes for students
Casual Roles offering 30 - 60 hrs per fortnight. Sleepover is a requirement on some shifts each week.
The successful applicant must:
Have a good understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultures.
Have an open drivers licence.
Have experience in managing domestic households
Have the ability to obtain a National Police Clearance and working with children clearance.
Have a strong passion and commitment to promoting education and leadership.

Indigenous Youth Mobility Pathways (IYMP) Project, funded by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, which assists young Indigenous people identified by their communities to relocate to a city for training purposes. These young people are housed by CEA and under the guidance of their Indigenous house parents, learn life skills and undertake formal study and training in numeracy and literacy , child care, nursing, administration and medicine, avionics etc. Due to its success, CEA now manages the program locations in Adelaide, Perth, Alice Springs, Cairns, Coffs Harbour, Darwin, Dubbo, Mossman, Townsville, Rockhampton and Toowoomba.
Skills in Education and Employment (SEE), funded by the Department of Industry and providing language, literacy and numeracy training for Australians combined with work skills e.g. LLN-supported Aged Care and Retail training.
Registered Training in Aged Care, Disability, Retail, Engineering, Horticulture, Language Literacy and Numeracy and work skills programs to assist long term unemployed people back into the workforce.
Offender Reintegration Support Service (ORSS) - CEA delivers the through-care ORSS in Cairns, Townsville and Rockhampton preparing offenders for release. Staff assist 6 months post release with housing, mental health issues, transport, family relations, anger management to ensure they remain crime free in the community.
Pathway2Employment (P2E) - This ‘through-care’ program commences in prisons (Cairns and Maryborough), engages with clients and prepares clients for life and work post release. Case Managers provide parallel services with JSAs and link with Probation and Parole to provide a holistic service to ex-offenders.
