Job Opportunity - Office of Colin Boyce MP - Electorate Officer- Gladstone QLD
(<6 month non-ongoing contract/maternity leave)
The office of Colin Boyce MP is seeking applications for a full-time non-ongoing Electorate Officer, based in Gladstone QLD.
Coverage in this role is required while the Office Manager is on maternity leave, from August 2025 to February 2026, however the role would ideally commence in July for training and we are open to it ceasing early if required.
About the position
An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic individual to fill a temporary Electorate Officer position in Gladstone.
This position will involve being a primary point of contact for constituent enquiries and taking responsibility for referring and progressing the resolution of same.
This position would suit someone with previous experience in an electorate office or direct contact experience in a public relations or complex customer service role.
The successful applicant will be highly motivated, even-tempered, well-organised and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Key duties include, but are not limited to:
Completing front-of-house activities assisting constituents via phone call and correspondence to the office.
Researching solutions to constituent enquiries and liaising with government agencies and stakeholders as needed to ensure matters are resolved in a timely and effective manner.
Carry out office administrative tasks including mailouts, filing, email support and data-entry.
Attending community events, which may require working on weekends and/or public holidays and travel within the large electorate of Flynn (travel allowance payable).
Accompany the Member to electorate activities as required.
Other duties as directed.
The ideal applicant should possess the following skills and experience:
Demonstrated experience in a similar capacity is highly desirable.
Reasonable understanding of the Australian system of government, parliamentary processes and how a Parliamentarian’s office operates.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
Highly organised with the ability to work independently and prioritise tasks with competing demands in a high-functioning team environment.
The maturity to correspond with various members of the public and key stakeholders, with a high level of professionalism, confidentiality and discretion.
Strong knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office 365 and Excel.
A demonstrated experience using social/digital media, graphic design, website maintenance, editing and/or website maintenance would be highly regarded. As would experience in policy, and/or research and preparation of submissions.
A Queensland driver licence and own vehicle is required.
Employment conditions:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:
A salary will be the Level EOB under the Agreement, negotiated depending on the applicant’s experience and skill set.
An additional optional allowance may be considered in recognition, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.
Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
An employer contribution of 15.4% superannuation will be payable.
Note – There may be an opportunity to rent a room in an apartment close to the office, which can be discussed further if interested.
The successful applicant will be required to comply with the relevant Draft Behaviour Standards and Codes endorsed by both Houses of Parliament and may be required to undergo a National Police History check
