Our client, the Department of Education is seeking an experienced Senior Privacy Officer to help shape and uphold privacy governance and make a significant impact within a high-profile Queensland government agency, while assisting with the implementation of Queensland’s new Information Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2023.

As a Senior Privacy Officer, you will play a critical role in safeguarding the personal information of students, staff, and communities. Working within the Information and Technologies Branch, you will manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality outcomes, provide training to departmental staff on privacy obligations, and promote a collaborative, respectful and inclusive team culture. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Provide expert advice on privacy compliance and management practices across the department.
• Investigate, assess and manage privacy breaches and complaints, and prepare formal responses and documentation.
• Lead and support the development of privacy policies, procedures, and training aligned with legislative obligations.
• Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments and advise on mitigation strategies.
• Engage with State and Federal regulators and support privacy-related communications, reviews, and mediations.
• Monitor and assess changes to privacy legislation and provide strategic input into departmental responses.
