Here at Like A Photon Creative, we're working together with some of the biggest and brightest minds on some of the biggest and brightest animated movies.
If you're a Python developer with experience in Games, CGI, or Animation industries, and you're looking for a new and exciting gig, we want to hear from you! The successful candidate will have the opportunity to broaden their experience by helping to mentor Junior developers as well as deepening their knowledge by working with and learning from some industry veterans.
Day to day duties will include:
Pipeline Development & Maintenance:
Design, develop, and maintain efficient animation pipelines to support the production workflow from pre-visualization to final rendering.
Collaborate with department heads to identify bottlenecks and propose technical solutions to streamline the animation process.
Ensure smooth integration of pipeline tools with software like Maya, Deadline, and other industry-standard animation applications.
Tool Creation & Automation:
Develop and deploy custom tools using Python and C# to automate repetitive tasks, increase artist efficiency, and ensure consistency across projects.
Implement scripts and extensions to optimize workflow processes for layout & animation, modeling & rigging, lighting, and compositing teams.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
Act as the liaison between technical and creative teams, ensuring that tools and pipelines meet the artistic requirements of the project.
Work closely with artists, riggers, and animators to understand their needs and provide technical solutions that enhance the creative process.
Pipeline Integration:
Collaborate with IT and software developers to ensure seamless integration of the animation pipeline with asset management systems, workstations, render farms, and data storage solutions.
Oversee the implementation of updates and new technologies into the production pipeline without disrupting ongoing projects.
Troubleshooting & Support:
Provide technical support to artists and other team members, troubleshooting pipeline issues and ensuring minimal downtime during production.
Debug and fix any pipeline-related issues quickly, maintaining a high standard of quality and efficiency.
Optimization & Performance:
Continuously evaluate and improve pipeline efficiency, optimizing both system performance and artist workflows to meet production deadlines.
Monitor render times and data flow through the pipeline to minimize technical debt and overhead.
Training & Documentation:
Create comprehensive documentation for pipeline tools, processes, and best practices to facilitate team training and onboarding.
Conduct training sessions for artists and technical staff to ensure they are proficient in using the pipeline tools.
Asset & Data Management:
Manage asset tracking and versioning systems to ensure data integrity, reduce file redundancy, and optimize storage usage.
Work with the IT department to establish a robust backup and archival strategy for all production assets.
Pipeline Evolution:
Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, evaluating and implementing new tools, libraries, and frameworks to keep the animation pipeline cutting-edge.
Contribute to long-term pipeline strategies and future-proofing to accommodate the studio's growing needs.
Maintain Pipeline Software Standards
Ensure pipeline source code is well maintained and documented
Implement deployment and testing processes to ensure efficient rollout of pipeline changes to the studio
The ideal candidate possesses:
Proficiency in Python for developing pipeline tools and automation
Strong understanding of 3D animation software APIs (e.g., Maya, Houdini, Blender).
Experience in asset management, asset version control, and render farm management.
Ability to solve complex technical problems and communicate solutions effectively across departments.
Experience with software version control and software deployment tools
Experience with Python automated testing
And desirable skills include:
Experience with C# and .Net
Experience with Nuke or Houdini
