The Role

The Platform Sustainment Product Manager (PSPM) provides critical support to the Platform System Sustainment team, ensuring the effective delivery of asset management activities across Collins Class Submarine (CCSM) sustainment. The PSPM will be accountable for the end-to-end delivery of sustainment products and support functions for the Collins Submarine Program (CSMP), within the Naval Shipbuilding & Sustainment Group (NSSG).

This role directly supports this availability and reliability of the CCSM. The position is at HMAS Stirling, WA, reporting to the Platform Systems Sustainment Manager. The PSPM manages and leads a team of Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and Australian Public Service (APS) System Asset Managers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Management & Delivery: Planning, scheduling, prioritisation and assessment of Platform System Sustainment products from concept to closure; ensure deliverables meet cost, schedule and quality requirements.
  • Risk & Issue Management: Identify, track and resolve risks and sustainment issues (such as supportability, safety, materiel, obsolescence or design). arising from reports and Root Cause Analyses; coordinating mitigation plans with internal and external stakeholders across the CCSM Enterprise.
  • Configuration Management: Oversee configuration baseline changes.
  • Governance & Representation: Represent Platform System Sustainment at key governance and advisory forums to align sustainment priorities with program strategy.
  • Integrated Project Team (IPT) Support: Provide subject-matter expertise and maintain alignment between Platform System Sustainment priorities and IPT deliverables for platform system initiatives.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor and manage APS staff within Platform System Sustainment; foster a culture of excellence, ensuring strong communication of objectives and professional growth opportunities.
  • Resource & Financial Management: Prepare budget forecasts, monitor expenditure, and conduct cost-benefit analyses for sustainment activities; optimise allocation of human and material resources.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain collaborative relationships with Defence, ASC, industry partners and other agencies to ensure timely and efficiency delivery of sustainment outcomes.

Remuneration and Conditions:

  • Salary Range: EL1 Pay Band (as per Defence Executive Level pay scales).
  • Superannuation: Additional employer contribution as per legislative requirements.
  • Work Location: HMAS Stirling, with occasional travel to Canberra and ASC sites as required.
