Are you passionate about protecting communities and ensuring public safety within our unique Australian environment? Our Council is seeking an experienced and dedicated Emergency Management Officer to join our team. In this role, you will be instrumental in upholding and advancing the prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery framework for emergencies, working closely with SES volunteers, state and federal agencies, and local stakeholders.

About this opportunity:

As an Emergency Management Officer, you will offer a wide range of administrative and logistical support integral to the emergency management framework. Your work will be vital in:

  • Prevention: Identifying potential threats and risks, ensuring readiness well before an emergency arises.
  • Preparedness: Coordinating training, resource allocation, and regular simulations to bolster our internal operations and community's resilience.
  • Response: Assisting in the rapid deployment of procedures and resources during crisis events.
  • Recovery: Playing a key role in transitioning communities from impact to recovery, ensuring a smooth return to normalcy.

Your proactive approach will also drive continuous improvement in our work practices, customer service, and overall operational effectiveness.

  • Administrative & Logistical Support: Deliver comprehensive administrative assistance and coordinate logistical resources to support both the Council's Emergency Management Section and State Emergency Services during all disaster management phases.
  • Continuous Improvement: Engage actively in reviewing and refining internal processes, aiming to boost operational efficiency and elevate customer service standards across Council services.
  • Collaborative Engagement: Build and nurture strong, cooperative relationships with:
  • Community Representation: Act as an ambassador for our Council. By promoting a professional and community-centred image, you will enhance our reputation as an effective, efficient, and proactive public service organisation.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in emergency management, administration, fire safety advisor or a related area, ideally within a government or community service setting.
  • Communication: Outstanding communication skills in both written and verbal formats, with the ability to effectively liaise with diverse groups from community members to government officials.
  • Organisational Abilities: Excellent planning and coordination skills, capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently during demanding situations.
  • Problem-Solving: A knack for quick, decisive thinking under pressure, ensuring that emergency procedures are executed seamlessly.
  • Team Collaboration: A strong team player with a commitment to fostering collaborative, supportive workplace environments that benefit the community.
  • Dedication to Public Service: A genuine passion for public safety, community resilience, and continuous improvement in service delivery.
