About Us:
At Firefly HR, we redefine what it means to find exceptional talent in the education and care profession. We work exclusively with a select group of exceptional clients and candidates, ensuring that only the best are connected with the highest quality opportunities - like this one:
Assistant Director | OSHC / OOSH | Inner West Sydney
About the Role:
This isn’t your average Assistant Director role.
And you? You’re not average either.
We’re partnering with a community based service in Sydney’s Inner West to find a standout Assistant Director - someone who backs their team, reads the room, and brings good energy (and a few laughs).
This is a rare leadership role with real trust, autonomy, proper structure, and a Director who actually gets it. You’ll help lead a strong, values led team that takes pride in what they do - but also knows how to have a laugh.
No endless red tape. No micromanagement. Just a great team, space to lead, and a service that values what you bring.
Why this role is different
- $45–$50 per hour + full-time stability
- Block shifts , full time (mix of 7am–3pm and 10am–6pm) - so you get your life back
- 4 day week option available for those interested, or the hours over 5 days.
- Own office, lots of admin support and leadership that trusts you
- Dedicated OSHC space and space to be
- Values led service with strong community backing
- Around 10 hours per week on the floor, 28 hours per week off the floor (flexible here)
- Not the Educational Leader position.
- NFP community based service.
- Strong, supportive culture backed by a progressive committee transitioning to the P&C.
You’ll thrive here if you...
- Are ready to step up or sideways into a leadership role that recognises your impact
- Love being on the floor - not buried in admin all day, but still genuinely have the time to get those things done
- Are emotionally intelligent, steady, and easy to work with
- Know your way around the NQF, maintain / contribute to the QIP, and embed inclusive practices
- Are present, connected, and leading in real time
- Are confident mentoring teams and building strong relationships with families
- Like structure, but lead with flexibility and common sense
- Have a children first approach and are a flexible, creative thinker, that knows their stuff.
What you’ll actually do
- Mentor and support a passionate educator team
- Work closely with a collaborative Director (who’ll back you all the way)
- Keep things moving forward - not just ticking boxes
- Support daily operations across before/after/vacation care
- Drive improvements without drowning in paperwork
- Shape a strong team culture alongside a collaborative Director
What’s backing you
- A full time office administrator to support the day-to-day (get those calls / emails = gives you and the Director more time back)
- A Director who leads beside you, not above you
- A tight knit supportive school community and real relationships with families
- Children with diverse needs - and the resourcing to support them
- A workplace where you’ll be trusted, valued, and supported to grow
Child Safeguarding:
Looking for an individual that will understand, adhere to, and promote The National Principles for Child Safe Organisations (the Child Safe Standards). In your position, you will help to take action to promote child wellbeing and prevent harm to children and young people.
Child safeguarding methods for this position, include, but are not limited to:
- A NSW Working With Children Check (WWCC) or willingness to obtain.
- Thorough screening.
- Reference checks.
