About This Opportunity
An exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Assistant to support an ARC Discovery project in the Synaptic Neurobiology Laboratory at the Queensland Brain Institute. The lab aims to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neuronal communication, synaptic plasticity, learning and memory.
In this role, you will be conducting mouse behavioural studies, surgical procedures, and post-behavioural tissue analyses (immunohistological routines, cells, proteins or RNA isolation). You will get to experience the lab performing a broad range of molecular, cell biology and tissue culture techniques required to complement in vivo-based studies.
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Managing and maintaining mouse colonies (genotyping, record keeping, animal ethics application)
- Performing in vivo and behavioural experiments
- Assisting with biochemistry, molecular and cell biology experiments
- Ensuring safe operation of research equipment and appropriate storage
- Assisting with data input and preparing analytical reports

About You
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Completed bachelor's degree in science, BSc (Hons) or related discipline in Neuroscience or Biological Science.
- Experience of working in a research team environment, training and previous laboratory research support experience.
- Experience of working with rodents in the context of research environment and methodology.
- Knowledge or experience in molecular and cell biology techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research independently and as a team.
- Demonstrated excellent attention to detail, systematic and strong organisational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt, willingness to undertake further training and development to optimise work performance.
- Awareness of laboratory safety, occupational health and safety protocols.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including the right to work in Australia and mandatory immunisations.
