About the Role - Immediate Start

We are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our accounting team for an immediate start. This is a full-time position that will play a vital role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial records. The Senior Bookkeeper will support MLCS Corporate’s finance and client service teams by ensuring accurate and timely financial record-keeping, reconciliations, reporting and compliance. This role involves working closely with both internal staff and external clients to maintain robust accounting systems, support audits and assist with budgeting and year-end processes.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Record-Keeping & Reporting

Maintain and reconcile general ledger, subsidiary ledgers and bank accounts.

Prepare monthly financial reports and Business Activity Statements (BAS).

Prepare year-end financial statements and supporting documentation.

Liaise with external auditors to coordinate annual audits and provide requested information.

Process payroll, superannuation and PAYG withholding payments.

Support end-of-month and end-of-year closing procedures.

Client Bookkeeping Services

Deliver accurate and timely bookkeeping services to a small, core and diverse portfolio of MLCS Corporate clients, including an outback store and a mining and civil group, working with a small yet dynamic team of professionals.

Prepare and review financial records for compliance and reporting obligations.

Provide financial support and reporting to clients during audits, reviews and funding processes.

Budgeting and Financial Support

Assist in the preparation of client and internal budgets and forecasts.

Monitor budget performance and provide variance reporting where required.

Accounts Payable and Receivable

Process invoices, payments and receipts accurately and efficiently.

Monitor and follow up on outstanding receivables and client billings.

Reconcile debtor and creditor accounts regularly.

System and Process Improvement

Maintain data integrity in accounting systems such as MYOB or Xero.

Identify and implement opportunities for workflow and system improvement.

Team Support and Leadership

Supervise and mentor junior finance or administrative support staff as needed.

Promote a collaborative and professional team environment aligned with MLCS Corporate’s values.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential:

Diploma or higher in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline (or demonstrated experience at this level).

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role.

Proficiency with MYOB, Xero and Microsoft Excel.

Sound understanding of GST, BAS, payroll, Superannuation and end-of-year reporting requirements.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with client-facing experience.

High level of accuracy, organisation and time management skills.

Desirable:

Exposure to the mining and civil construction sectors.

Good understanding of Modern Awards, enterprise agreements and payroll compliance.

Experience in preparing budgets and financial forecasts.

Knowledge of accounting standards for incorporated associations and small businesses.

Experience using accounting system integrations or practice management platforms.
