The Role
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Technical Manager will serve as the organization's expert on certified organic standards and sustainable practices. This role is instrumental in driving strategic initiatives, overseeing research projects, and ensuring compliance with both domestic and international standards. As a key leader, you will represent the organization in various forums, fostering relationships that advance the organic sector's growth and integrity.

Your duties will include

  • Lead the development and management of the Australian Certified Organic Standard (ACOS), providing technical advice to certification bodies and regulators.
  • Drive the execution of technical and industry-focused strategic priorities in collaboration with the CEO and Board.
  • Oversee grant-funded projects, policy development, and research initiatives aligned with member and industry needs.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, in media engagements, and public forums to promote organic standards and sustainability best practices.
  • Engage with stakeholders across the certified organic sector to build productive and resilient relationships.
  • Support government relations, member engagement, and stakeholder partnerships to influence policy and advance the organic cause.
  • Mentor a small team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture aligned with the organization's values.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will possess a deep understanding of certified organic systems and a passion for sustainable agriculture. Your ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and engage with diverse stakeholders will be key to your success.

To be considered for the role, you must be able to address the following criteria:

  • Proven experience in certified organic systems, standards, or agricultural sustainability.
  • Experience working with certification bodies, regulators, or technical compliance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in presenting at senior levels.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • A collaborative and strategic mindset with a passion for industry impact.

Other certifications/licenses desired for the role (or willingness to acquire) include:

  • Relevant qualifications in agriculture, environmental science, food systems, or a related field.
  • Experience in government relations or public policy development.
  • Skilled in research project management or grants reporting.
