A rapidly scaling defence technology innovator is seeking a Systems Engineer to join its high-performance development team based in Sydney. This is a pivotal position that blends product/project management, technical specification, and stakeholder liaison work across a diverse portfolio of engineering projects.
The role will appeal to a proactive and detail-focused engineer who thrives on translating user needs into actionable solutions. It’s ideal for someone with strong communication skills, a love of structured problem-solving, and a passion for supporting both internal systems and external customer-facing tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage directly with stakeholders across sales, engineering, and support teams to define clear, actionable requirements based on customer needs and market signals.
- Act as the bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, ensuring mutual understanding and alignment of objectives.
- Lead requirement-gathering workshops, user interviews, and feedback sessions to map detailed user stories and functional requirements.
- Support product demos and marketing events to capture real-time product insights and identify enhancement opportunities.
- Translate business requirements into structured user stories, process flows, and acceptance criteria for Agile teams.
- Prioritise and refine backlogs to keep engineering roadmaps responsive and aligned with strategic goals.
- Document all requirements, workflows, and decisions with clarity and consistency using industry-standard tools.
- Maintain transparent communications with internal and external stakeholders to report progress, risks, and outcomes.
- Analyse completed projects and contribute to process improvement initiatives and internal best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
- Degree in an engineering discipline such as communications, computer, electronics, or mechanical or equivalent practical experience.
- Prior experience in a Systems Engineering role within a technology-led organisation — ideally in defence, software, or high-compliance environments.
- Strong track record in stakeholder engagement, requirements management, and structured project documentation.
- Proven ability to liaise between engineering and commercial teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Experience in Agile methodologies and tooling (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
- Comfortable managing competing priorities in fast-moving, iterative product cycles.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and written communication skills.

- Exposure to electronic warfare, artificial intelligence, or machine learning domains.
- Experience conducting product demonstrations, gathering end-user feedback, or supporting external product events.
