Non-government representative body for NSW Catholic schools; and

Under its Constitution, CSNSW acts as the overarching entity for the purposes of advancing education and religion in Catholic schools in NSW and ensures that Catholic schools meet their compliance requirements and can measure their activities in such a way as to maximize the education and faith outcomes of students. The company’s constitution is also backed by canonical mandates of delegation from each of the 11 diocesan bishops in New South Wales who also make up the board members of the Company.

Primary Purpose of the role
The Systems Engineer works as part of the broader Data and Information Systems team to proactively ensure that the systems, networks and other infrastructure that the organisation depends on are performing as expected, properly maintained, fit within our overall architecture and continue to be secure. This role will contribute to the design, planning and implementation of our cloud environment through ongoing projects with a focus on best practice security, using automation (i.e. infrastructure as code) where possible, and ensuring that performance is measurable (i.e. monitoring and observability).
The Systems Engineer will also act as a subject matter expert and point of escalation for our Service Desk team, performing Level 2 and 3 support as required, providing high quality and responsive service.
This role will report to the Head of Data and Information Systems, and work closely with other Data and Information Systems team members as part of their day-to-day work.
This is a permanent full time position with the expectation that you are willing and able to work from the CSNSW office located in Sydney CBD.
Key responsibilities
Proactively ensure systems, networks and infrastructure are available, secure, and performing to CSNSW standards, and are compliant with all relevant policies and regulatory requirements.
Develop automated processes to install, configure, secure, test, maintain and recover all aspects of systems, networks and infrastructure.
Monitor our environment for security threats, respond to potential security incidents, and participate in security compliance audits on a regular basis to maintain a strong security posture.
Participate as a subject matter expert in strategic projects, planning exercises and solution design discussions to deliver new or improved services to CSNSW staff and the schools we support as required.
Continuously develop existing skills and demonstrate commitment to learning new skills relevant to achieving the responsibilities outlined in this role.
Perform Level 2 and 3 Support as required to assist our Service Desk function.

Essential Requirements
National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014.
Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.
Empathy with and support for the mission, ethos and beliefs of Catholic schools and the communities they serve.
At least 3 years experience in a similar engineering role that covers both thick-client and web-based systems (both PaaS and hybrid), monitoring, automation, and security.
Solid understanding of and experience in enterprise networking, including network segmentation, firewall policies and intrusion detection.
Solid general understanding of Cloud Platforms and Infrastructure (experience with Azure preferred but AWS or GCP acceptable).
Solid understanding and experience with M365 administration including Teams and VoIP, and mobile device management (Intune).
Prior exposure to Cyber Security, including vulnerability remediation, threat monitoring and incident response.
Ability to work both collaboratively and independently within a dynamic team and across different teams.
Attention to detail and flexibility.
Proven experience in providing outstanding Level 2 and Level 3 support to stakeholders in all levels of the organisation
Desirable
Prior experience with DevOps, scripting and automation would be highly regarded.
Experience with Microsoft Teams Rooms videoconferencing equipment
