About the Role
Fender Geophysics is seeking a skilled and motivated Geospatial & Geophysical Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this diverse and technically engaging role, you’ll be responsible for acquiring, managing, analysing, and interpreting spatial and geophysical datasets to support a range of exploration, environmental, and infrastructure projects across Australia and beyond. This position will suit someone who thrives at the intersection of spatial science and geophysics, with a passion for fieldwork, data innovation, and high-quality spatial outputs.
Key Responsibilities:
Acquire, process, and manage geophysical and geospatial data from field surveys and remote sources.
Integrate GIS, GPS, LiDAR, and remote sensing tools with ground-based geophysical instrumentation.
Generate spatial outputs including maps, 3D models, and technical documentation for clients and internal use.
Develop and optimise workflows for data validation, storage, and visualisation.
Maintain data quality and ensure compliance with metadata and spatial referencing standards.
Collaborate with field teams, scientists, and clients to meet project objectives.
Contribute to R&D efforts in geophysical and spatial data acquisition technologies.
Assist in the development of custom software tools and data integration platforms.
Support the preparation of survey plans and land information documentation.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technical staff when required.
About You
You’re a self-driven geoscientist or spatial analyst with a strong foundation in data management, spatial analysis, and field-based data collection. You enjoy applying your knowledge across disciplines and using technology to solve real-world geoscience problems.
To be successful, you will have:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Geophysics, Geoinformatics, Engineering in Information Systems, Spatial Science, Surveying, or related field.
Minimum 2 years' experience in geophysical or geospatial data processing and interpretation.
Proficiency in GIS tools (QGIS, ArcGIS) and scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB.
Experience working with geophysical datasets, remote sensing, and elevation models.
Solid understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and spatial data frameworks.
A strong fieldwork ethic and ability to work in remote environments when required.
Desirable Skills:
Experience with geophysical instruments and processing software.
Knowledge of spatial databases and automation tools.
Background in near-surface geophysics, mineral exploration, or groundwater studies.
Previous involvement in instrument development or custom software integration.
