About The Opportunity

As part of the Economic Development team, this position is responsible to coordinate, prepare and submit external grant and funding applications and be proactive in actively researching grant and funding opportunities on behalf of Council and relevant business units.

The incumbent will also support the advocacy efforts of Council, including as outlined in the Corporate Plan, by undertaking research, drafting position papers and coordinating submissions to government agencies. The position will foster effective partnerships across the organisation that supports cross organisational thinking and successful implementation of change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Team Leader Economic Development in the development and implementation of strategic growth management and development-based initiatives to guide sustainable short and long-term growth, innovation and service delivery that aligns with Council’s strategic priorities
  • Support the Team Leader – Economic Development in the development and implementation of Council’s advocacy efforts, including undertaking research and analysis necessary to prepare draft advocacy positions for consideration
  • Undertake high level research and analysis necessary to identify and recommend grant and funding opportunities relevant to Council
  • Engage with relevant business units and stakeholders regarding current and future grant and funding opportunities relevant to each area
  • Develop project plans and proposals relevant to grant and funding submissions
  • Coordinate grant and funding negotiations, conduct reports on progress and outcomes
  • Collate and develop the capability and organisation of product content relevant to each business unit to help support ongoing and future grants and funding applications
  • Undertake research and analysis necessary to support the formulation of Council policies, strategies, guidelines and programs and prepare draft policy and advocacy positions for consideration.
  • Coordinate and prepare submissions, with assistance of relevant business units, to other levels of government relating to changes to legislation or government policy that may impact on the operations of the Council
  • Other duties as required in accordance with Corporate Plan objectives, business plans, or other Council priorities.

About You

We are looking for a motivated individual with a passion for community development and the ability to advocate effectively. In this dynamic position, you will be at the forefront of researching, coordinating, and submitting grant applications while supporting the Council’s advocacy initiatives. Your work will not only support the economic development of Bundaberg but also enhance the quality of life for our residents.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Communication, Law, Economics, Social Sciences or other qualification relevant to the position.
  • Demonstrated experience in grant and funding applications, research and development, and a demonstrated ability to successfully advocate for change in a Local Government setting.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills with particular emphasis in the areas of consultation, advocacy and negotiating skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislative, regulatory and government guidelines and requirements relevant to the role.
  • Demonstrated skills in undertaking research and written skills relevant to drafting grant and funding applications and advocacy position documents

Desired Requirements:

  • Previous local government experience.
