The Role

As a Project Officer you will be a key support resource for the MDHSS - a collaborative initiative between the OIR, Resources Safety & Health Queensland (RSHQ) and WorkCover Queensland (WCQ). The service provides access to health screening, information and support for eligible former mine and quarry workers affected by occupational mine dust lung disease.

  • Assisting with grants administration and processing invoices.
  • Providing professional and empathetic customer service to former mine workers and other stakeholders via phone and email.
  • Offering accurate advice about health screening and support services
  • Collaborating with two other agencies - RSHQ and WorkCover Queensland to ensure co-ordinated and timely service delivery.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and integrity of client information in accordance with legislative obligations.
  • Recording all interactions and preparing reports using CRM systems and tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, QI, Content Manager and Power BI.
  • Drafting clear and written communications tailored to different audiences.

We're looking for someone who can confidently manage competing priorities while supporting sensitive and high-impact initiatives. You'll need to demonstrate:

  • Strong administrative experience in a professional office environment (minimum of 2 years).
  • Understanding of or exposure to Queensland's workers' compensation scheme (highly desirable).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage compassionately on sensitive matters.
  • Ability to use initiative, work independently and contribute effectively to a team.
  • Well-developed-problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Competency in using CRM systems and Microsoft Office tools including Excel and Power BI.
  • A calm and resilient approach when dealing with distressing or emotive situations.

Why Join Us?

At the Office of Industrial Relations, we are committed to creating safe, fair and productive workplaces across Queensland. This role offers:

  • Meaningful work that directly benefits Queensland workers.
  • Supportive environment with access to supervision and Employee Assistance Programs to manage vicarious trauma.
