About the role
As the Lifestyle Events Leader at Tourism and Events Queensland, you will be responsible for strategically managing and leveraging lifestyle-focused events to deliver maximum value to Queensland’s visitor economy. This role leads the acquisition, development, and evaluation of major and destination events, working collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to align with TEQ’s strategic objectives. You will identify high-impact opportunities, negotiate partnerships, and guide event investments to grow Queensland’s global events calendar and support tourism growth through innovative and results-driven event leadership.
Key Duties
- Drive the identification, attraction, and nurturing of high-value lifestyle events that align with TEQ strategies and contribute to Queensland’s visitor economy.
- Interpret and apply key TEQ strategies (Blueprint, Strategic Plan, Events Strategy 2025) to ensure events align with organisational objectives and deliver measurable value
- Maintain strong communication with key stakeholders, including local and state governments, tourism operators, sponsors, and event proponents to ensure collaborative delivery and support.
- Coordinate feasibility studies, due diligence, and post-event evaluations to assess economic impact, identify risks, and guide future investment decisions.
- Demonstrate strong business insight and negotiation skills to secure third-party partners, funding, and in-kind support that enhance the value of TEQ’s event investments
- Produce data-driven, high-level business cases and briefs that clearly justify investment opportunities, aligned with TEQ’s objectives and performance measures.

For this role, we will consider your:
- Extensive knowledge of the national and global events landscape.
- Robust understanding of identifying, attracting, and nurturing events to drive value to Queensland’s economy, including knowledge of Government’s role in events.
- Proven leadership in guiding staff and project teams to foster collaboration and achieve collective goals.
- Demonstrated business acumen with strong negotiation skills to navigate complex commercial scenarios and drive successful outcomes.
- Highly developed written communication skills with the ability to produce quality business cases and reports.
- Ability and willingness to travel and participate in work activities outside normal working hours, including evenings and weekends.
