About This Opportunity

This is a great opportunity for a motivated Senior Community Engagement Officer to join the ENDING-STIs research project. This role is suited to someone who is interested in making a difference to the lives of Indigenous Australians and engaging with communities in the Central Queensland region.

Project Information

The ENDING-STIs research project is trialling a Precision Public Health (PPH) approach towards eliminating curable STIs and improving the management of HIV and BBVs in regional Central Queensland.

Role Information

In this role, you will provide essential communications and community engagement support to projects carried out in the ENDING-STIs research program. You will drive stakeholder engagement with existing Central Queensland Community Coalition with the aim of expanding the reach to maximise research impact.

An important part of this role is community engagement, including with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in community, healthcare workers providing care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and Community Organisations.

Please note, travel is required between community locations for which a vehicle will be provided.

About You

The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

Additionally, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • A degree in a relevant field; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated experience in research translation and/or stakeholder engagement along with proven experience in health care delivery or a health research services setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in achieving outcomes in a communications environment including online services, publications and stakeholder management.
  • Holds and maintains a full Queensland driving licence as this role will be required to travel to community locations within Cairns approximately 2-3 days per week.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills including the ability to communicate effectively with people from a diverse range of educational and cultural backgrounds, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations.
  • Ability to coordinate and work with others to collaboratively achieve strategic outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player who promotes a supportive and cohesive environment.
  • Strong organisational, time management and record-keeping abilities, along with attention to detail.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including the right to work in Australia and driver's license evidence.
