About the Role

The overall purpose of the Counsellor role is to provide confidential individual and group counselling, assessment and – where appropriate – referral services to foster the personal, social and educational transition and achievements of students.

Counsellors will provide individual and group educative services to assist students to overcome obstacles such as transition, uncertainty about the future, personal and family matters, and study problems that may hinder their participation or performance in educational activities.

Some of the duties you will perform are:

Assessing client’s situations and depending on the severity, initiating the application of crisis intervention and risk assessment.

Working with clients on a diverse range of issues e.g. eating disorders, violence, anxiety, stress, relationship and family related matters, assertiveness, grief and loss and in using a variety of therapeutic approaches, particularly those which are brief in nature.

Conducting professional duties in accordance with the parameters of the code of ethics of the relevant professional association (i.e. APS/AASW), Counselling Services Policies and Procedures, and relevant State and Federal legislation.

Planning, developing, implementing and reviewing programs/projects involving major change which may impact on other areas of the institutions operations.

This is a Part-Time Fixed Term role until 29 May at a HEP 7 classification, with salary range being $97,863 - $105,932 (pro-rata) per annum plus 17% employer superannuation contribution, working 22.05 hours per week.

About the Person

You will hold full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency: Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA); or be recognised as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker by the AASW.

You will have demonstrated significant experience in the development and facilitation of individual and group counselling and education programs, mental health promotion, and workshops, preferably with adolescent or young people within either an educational, clinical or community setting on an appointment or crisis basis.

You will hold a recognised qualification in Psychology or Social Work and have at least two years full-time counselling experience post qualification.

A current (E) Employee Working with Children Check is also mandatory for this role.
