Balwyn High School is a leading Victorian Government secondary school recognised for academic excellence and innovation. We are seeking a dynamic Learning Environments and AV Manager to lead the school's Audio Visual (AV) and learning space technologies strategy. This role includes oversight of AV systems across teaching and event spaces, strategic planning for future technologies (including AI and automation), and leadership of the Learning Environments Team (LET).
This is a future-focused role suited to a strategic thinker with strong technical knowledge and a passion for empowering staff and students through digital tools.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Lead the development and implementation of a long-term AV and digital learning environments strategy, aligned with the school's educational priorities.
Monitor and assess emerging technologies (e.g. AI, hybrid/remote learning platforms, interactive media tools) and make recommendations for adoption.
Collaborate with key stakeholders to design AV and tech-enabled learning environments that enhance pedagogy.
Team Leadership and Operations
Lead, mentor and manage the Learning Environments Team.
Plan AV support for all school activities, including classes, meetings, performances, assemblies, and events.
Delegate and/or provide hands-on support at school activities, meetings, performances, assemblies, and events as needed.
Maintain and develop procedures and documentation to support staff and student AV use.
AV and Production Management
Provide expert-level videography, photography and digital production, including editing and publishing promotional content.
Ensure school facilities are "event ready" with appropriate staffing and equipment, including support for after-hours events.
Lead technical production for high-profile events such as Presentation Night, performing arts showcases, and community livestreams.
AV Infrastructure, Training and Support
Oversee the installation, maintenance, repair, and inventory management of AV assets.
Deliver training and professional learning to staff and students in AV tools, media production, and new technologies.
Build staff capacity in the effective use of AV and classroom technology through clear guides, workshops, and one-on-one coaching.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
Pilot new tools and platforms that enhance student learning or reduce administrative inefficiencies.
Collaborate on cross-functional tech initiatives with the Learning Systems Manager and IT support staff.
Evaluate and improve AV workflows, including the adoption of automation and AI-driven editing or scheduling tools.

Key Selection Criteria
Applicants must address the following criteria:
Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and implementation of AV and digital learning technologies in a large or complex environment.
Proven ability to lead a high-performing technical team, including staff management, delegation, and mentoring.
Advanced knowledge of AV infrastructure, live event production, and digital content creation (e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud, livestreaming, DSLR cameras, sound and lighting systems).
High-level organisational and project management skills, including the ability to plan for major events and manage competing demands.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate, train, and build relationships across diverse teams.
Commitment to continuous learning and innovation, including exploration of emerging technologies (e.g. AI for video production, hybrid learning tools).
Qualifications and Competencies
Desirable:
Qualifications in media production, audio engineering, IT, or related fields.
Experience in educational settings or with pedagogical use of AV/IT technologies.
Familiarity with Department of Education policies and systems.
Additional Requirements
This role requires availability for after-hours work to support major school events.
