The Role:
The Disability Support Worker role requires providing one-on-one support, ensuring consistency, structure, and high-quality care tailored to the participants individual needs. This role requires advanced communication skills, patience, and a deep understanding of level 3 autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities. This role involves assisting participant with daily activities, transportation, social engagement, and skill-building while promoting their overall well-being.

About You
We want someone that is kind, polite, courteous, and great at effective communication. Someone who genuinely cares about their participant is eager to listen and assist them in realising their full potential. We want someone who possess the following characteristics:
Alertness and Vigilance: Remaining alert and vigilant throughout your shifts is essential for monitoring the individuals under their care and responding promptly to any changes or emergencies.
Effective communication: effective communication is essential when following and conveying information through care documentation. You will need to follow written protocols precisely, especially in medication management, required checklists, mobility transfers, and emergency procedures. You will also need to clearly and accurately record all relevant observations, changes in the participant condition, incidents, and care provided in the appropriate documents.
Attention to Detail: Paying close attention to detail is important for accurately documenting observations, administering medication, and ensuring that individuals receive the appropriate care and support.
Follows Instructions: To abide by the instructions provided on how to provide care to the participant and instructions on how to complete duties.
Problem-Solving Abilities: Support workers must be able to think quickly and make sound decisions, particularly in emergencies or situations requiring immediate attention.
Key Responsibilities
Support participant in accessing and participating in community activities, events, and social outings.
Assist participant with meal preparation, and household tasks
Provide transport and accompany participant to appointments, recreational activities, and community programs.
Encourage independence by promoting skill development and engagement in meaningful activities.
Build positive relationships with participant , families, and support networks.
Implement individual support plans in line with participant goals and preferences.
Maintain accurate records, including progress notes and incident reports.
Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety policies and safeguarding practices.
Work collaboratively with colleagues, healthcare professionals, and community organisations to provide holistic support.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential:
Previous experience in working with person's with level 3 Autism Spectrum Disorder participants and intellectual disabilities highly regarded.
Minimum 2+ years' experience of working as a disability support worker.
A genuine passion for supporting individuals to live independently and engage in the community.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and adapt to different participant needs.
Knowledge of person-centred approaches and safeguarding principles.
Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
Ability to communicate, problem solve and use life experience along with integrity, honesty & reliability are critical attributes for this role.
Required Certification
Minimum Certificate III in Individual Supports /Disability Cert IV, Mental Health certification or equivalent
First Aid and CPR certification
Current Working with Children Check
National Police Check
Full driving licence, access to a reliable car & comprehensive car insurance
NDIS Worker Screening Check
NDIS Module
Professional training certification
