Step As One Disability Services is seeking enthusiastic and compassionate Forensic Disability Support Workers, across the South Eastern Melbourne Metropolitan area and Western Metropolitan area (including City of Casey/Dandenong/Frankston/Mornington Peninsula/Armadale and Melton), who have experience supporting people with complex disability and behavioural needs (including offending behaviours) to join our dynamic team!

As this role requires daily communication with NDIS participants who have a cognitive disability, ability to communicate clearly is a must. If you have experience working with people who have complex needs (including; behaviours, mental health issues, criminal justice related issues, history of trauma, substance dependence, level 3 Autism Spectrum Disorider etc), we'd love to hear from you.

Support Worker Position Description (but not limited to):

Support NDIS participants to engage in activities and tasks including capacity building, in home support and community access.

Support NDIS participants to access the community.

Work in accordance with Step As One Disability Services' medication administration policy, work health and safety procedures and participant right's policies including privacy and confidentiality.

Monitor the safety and well-being of the participant and report any concerns to the Practice Lead.

Ensure completion of appropriate documentation such as participant progress notes, incident reports and goal attainment using the Step As One Client Management System.

Work directly with participants, family, relevant stakeholders and other professionals to support the participants NDIS goals and individual SMART goals.

Undertake relevant participant specific and mandatory training modules as required to maintain NDIS practice competency requirements.

Actively contribute to a team environment through open communication, participation in regular team meetings, planning processes and professional development /supervision.

Provide back up and support to other staff, as necessary.

Take reasonable care for his or her own health and safety.

Report any quality and safety incident or hazards at work immediately to the Practice Lead .

Carry out their roles and responsibilities as detailed in the relevant policies and processes.

Qualifications – preferred

Cert IV Child Protection, Mental Health, Disability, Community Services or similar or relevant tertiary qualification or experience in the field

Current National Police Check

Working with Children Check.

NDIS Workers Orientation (or willing to complete)

Current Drivers license and fully comprehensive insurance

Medication administration competency

Competencies and experience

Experience working in the disability field

Experience working with people with disability who have been involved in the criminal justice system (preferred)

Genuine passion for the field of work (mandatory)

Clear, fluent written and verbal English language skills (mandatory)

Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision (mandatory)

Strong engagement, enthusiasm, resilience and self care.(mandatory)

Experience to medication administration or willing to be trained (preferred)

Understanding of Behaviour Support implementation and restrictive practice (mandatory)
