About Somerville Community Services

Somerville is a for-purpose, community-based organisation that has supported Territorians for over 50 years. We specialise in high-quality disability services that empower people to live the life they choose. As a registered NDIS provider, we deliver individualised support across the Northern Territory, with a focus on respectful, person-centred relationships that promote choice, dignity, and independence.

About the role

We are seeking a strategic and experienced property professional to lead Somerville Housing’s asset and housing portfolio. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, the Director, Housing and Property Services will drive the development of new Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), oversee organisational property strategy, and ensure our housing assets meet the needs of participants and support sustainable growth.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of housing and property within a respected not-for-profit organisation. You will bring strong leadership, SDA expertise, and the ability to deliver complex property projects from concept through to completion.

What you’ll be doing

As Director, you will lead housing and property strategy, oversee compliance and infrastructure risk, and manage development and capital works projects across SDA and other organisational assets.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a strong understanding of financial regulations, payroll, and reporting requirements. It also involves supporting financial literacy across the organisation and driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the planning and delivery of new SDA and disability housing projects across the NT
  • Overseeing property acquisition, disposal, lease arrangements, and upgrades
  • Providing strategic oversight of all housing assets and organisational property
  • Ensuring SDA compliance and liaison with the NDIA and relevant authorities
  • Developing asset strategies aligned with NDIS requirements and service delivery needs
  • Supporting Somerville’s broader operational and strategic goals through asset planning and infrastructure advice

What you’ll bring

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring strategic leadership, strong commercial acumen, and the ability to drive complex property and housing initiatives that align with long-term organisational goals and NDIS requirements.

You’ll also need to demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience delivering property and housing projects, including development, compliance, and project management
  • In-depth understanding of SDA, NDIS provider obligations, and disability housing requirements
  • Strong strategic planning and critical thinking skills
  • Experience leading teams and managing consultants and contractors
  • Sound knowledge of NT building regulations, planning processes, and tenancy law
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong financial acumen, including capital budget management and feasibility assessment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and property or asset management software
  • High-level professionalism and a commitment to ethical practice, inclusion, and participant choice and control

You will also need to hold (or have the ability to obtain) a current Ochre Card, Criminal History Check, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, COVID-19 and Influenza vaccinations, evidence of Australian work rights, and an NT Drivers Licence.

Please refer to our website for a copy of the position description and a complete list of essential and desirable criteria (https://somerville.org.au/careers).

Why work with us

We offer a collaborative and purpose-driven work environment, where your leadership will directly contribute to improving the lives of Territorians living with disability. You’ll have genuine scope to shape Somerville’s property strategy and make informed decisions that drive meaningful outcomes.

We also offer:

  • Six weeks of annual leave
  • Salary packaging – receive up to $15,900 tax-free
  • Paid parental leave
  • Free onsite car parking
  • Regular supervision and a focus on employee well-being
  • Access to training and professional development
  • Free, confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
