Defence has published strategic documents, including The Defence Data Strategy 2.0 and The Defence Digital Strategy and Roadmap 2024 that outlines a vision for Defence to become a more data enabled organisation.
Defence is also currently investing in a range of new data enabling initiatives aligned with the Defence data strategies including ERP, Army Data Hub, Vera tools, and the build of various business intelligence tools.
The Division of this work will directly address the challenge of operationalising Defence data strategies and resources in the context of their Division.
The approach of the Data Initiatives team will be to address data maturity challenges head on by;

• Identifying data challenges and opportunities to advance end-state goals
• Engaging stakeholder networks to enable Division decision support
• Employing a learning orientated approach to trial data-led, tool-delivered innovate solutions that have scope to improve the level of data maturity

Statement of Duties:

• Gather data from Project teams to inform Order planning and assurance
• Develop project planning tools including finance, schedule and scope using MS Excel and Power BI;
• Develop the Project Documentation to support the ongoing use of the tools
• Maintain project activity (ALT 6) data updates and enter project data in the Defence Synchronisation Tool (DST)
• Develop and maintain regular reports of ALT 6 execution of activities for governance and assurance.
• Manage obstacles that will impede the deliverables being successfully executed;
• Brief all levels within the Division
• Lead planning groups on behalf of the Project Manager.

The resources will provide the Executive:

• Increased data quality for data-driven, evidence-based decisions.
• Creation and utilisation of visualisation tools using data from a range of tools to enable strategic decision making

The resources will provide the Staff:

• Means to keep up to date.
• Means to plan project Introduction into Service based on quality data
• Means to risk manage project Introduction into Service based on quality data
• A means to manage daily business based on quality data

The resources will also be required to:

• Engage with relevant stakeholders, identifying any gaps, risks, or issues;
• Be prepared to provide specialist advice to working groups and Stakeholders;
• Manage obstacles that will impede the deliverables being successfully executed;
• Successfully collaborate with ADF and APS staff and Defence contractors;
• Self-manage their hours to ensure contractual obligations are being met
• Advise the Project Manager of contractual risks;
• Not work out of scope of contract; and
• Be capable of working remotely (off site)
