We are proud to be the first medical school in Australia to introduce problem-based learning (PBL) into our curriculum.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Lecturer in Medical Education / Phase 1 Coordinator to join our dynamic team at our Callaghan Campus in Newcastle.

In this position you will:

  • Collaborate seamlessly with fellow academics across the JMP to design and deliver high-quality PBL, clinical skills, and integrated course components that engage Phase 1 students across all clinical schools and learning formats.
  • Play a key role in shaping assessments, working closely with the Assessment Committee and UNE Year 1 and 2 Coordinators to ensure they are purposeful, well-aligned with learning outcomes, and support student success.
  • Provide inspiring leadership and guidance to PBL and clinical skills tutors, fostering a supportive and high-performing teaching team.
  • Lead the development and coordination of targeted remediation strategies, identifying and supporting students who need additional academic assistance.
  • Contribute actively to program and course reviews, both internal and external, in collaboration with the Phase 1 and Teaching and Learning Committees of the JMP.
  • Champion quality assurance, monitoring student feedback and assessment practices to ensure consistency, fairness, and validity in partnership with the Monitoring and Evaluation and Assessment Committees.
  • Actively contribute to ACHIEVE (Academy for Collaborative Health Interprofessional Education and Vibrant Excellence) by engaging in collaborative research projects, building your research profile through high-quality publications, and progressing or initiating a higher research degree in a medical education-related field.

This position is based at the university’s Callaghan Campus in Newcastle. You'll benefit from strong connections with academic educators and clinical colleagues at the campus, as well as at other JMP teaching campuses, including the university’s Central Coast Clinical School (Gosford), John Hunter Hospital and the University of New England. Additionally, our school and the JMP have strong ties with the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HRMI), providing you with exciting opportunities to advance your research and professional growth.
