Ascent is an engineering consultancy that supports the Australian Defence Force by supplying them with expert engineering contractors, specialising in Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (Yes, it actually IS rocket science!).

We’re on the hunt for a Marketing & Culture Coordinator to help bring our brand and culture to life, inside and out.

Here is what you will typically be working on:

Marketing & Social Media

Own our voice on LinkedIn and Instagram; think sharp, engaging, and never boring

Tell authentic stories about our people, projects, milestones, and culture

Coordinate award submissions that showcase our impact and brilliant team

Admin & Ops

Keep our systems running smoothly: emails, docs, onboarding kits, and other daily essentials

Jump in to streamline internal processes and improve how we work

Additional ad hoc work that might pop up from time to time to keep the wider operations flowing

People & Culture

Design onboarding experiences that feel personal, powerful, and Ascent-worthy

Drive engagement, wellness, and connection across our semi-remote team

Roll out exciting new benefits and get our people talking (and using them!)

Implement an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to support team wellbeing

Scout out the perfect gym membership

You’re our kind of person if you:

Have experience in marketing, communications, HR, admin…or a magical mix of all three

Know how to make culture shine, even across screens and time zones

Are organised, self-directed, and have a sharp eye for detail

“Get” social, especially LinkedIn, and know how to make a brand feel human

Curious about Defence and want your work to mean something

Get stuck in and take ownership. Hands-on. Sleeves rolled.

Have top-tier interpersonal skills and love collaborating in multidisciplinary teams

Are hungry to learn and grow continuously

Take initiative and don’t wait to be told what needs doing

Communicate clearly, confidently, and with purpose

Are up for an adventure (yes, travel will be involved!)

Have a passion for Defence…or want to discover one

Are an ADF Reservist (this is a big plus!)

Are genuinely excited by things that go boom (safely, of course)

Are comfortable in a workplace with personality - ours comes with banter, memes, and the occasional (harmless) pranks. A thick skin and a good sense of humour will serve you well.

The skills and qualities we are looking for:

Are a people person

At least 2 years’ experience in social media, marketing or the like

Great copywriting skills

High attention to detail

Ability to juggle competing priorities and manage your own time effectively

Confidence to work both autonomously and as part of a team

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop (desirable)

Graduate degree in marketing, communications, or similar (desirable)

Experience supporting a distributed or remote team (desirable)

Understanding of the Defence industry or compliance-heavy sectors (desirable)

PPS – The fine print – things you should know:

The role is subject to a 6-month probation period

The recruitment process will potentially include a short quiz, test or assignment

You will have to be able to supply at least 2 contactable, relevant references as part of your application

You will have to be able to work from our fabulous office space in Lot Fourteen, Adelaide

Due to the classified nature of the work we perform a Defence Security Clearance and eligibility to access International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) controlled equipment and data is mandatory.
