About the role

We are looking for an Assistant Commissioner (Reviews and Compliance) to join our small and dynamic organisation. This executive leadership opportunity at the IPC offers the chance to lead the independent integrity agency's statutory reviews, complaints, monitoring, compliance and internal governance functions.

As the Assistant Commissioner (Reviews and Compliance), you will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (also the Information Commissioner) and be responsible to both the Information Commissioner and Privacy Commissioner for delivering statutory functions related to information access and privacy. In this pivotal role, you'll provide strategic and operational leadership across a range of oversight functions, helping to guide best practice in the NSW public sector and promote compliance with information access and privacy laws.

Your key accountabilities include:

Leading a team to carry out the Commission's statutory functions including reviews, complaints, audits investigations and reporting.

Build and maintain a deep subject matter expertise across the team, including about contemporary uses of technology to deliver public services.

Leading stakeholder engagement across the NSW public sector to uplift privacy and information access capabilities.

Fulfilling the IPC's Chief Audit Executive role; supporting governance, internal audit, and risk management frameworks.

Advising Commissioners on strategic direction and contributing to the IPC's corporate leadership and performance.

Delivering strategic projects and ensuring service excellence, continual improvement, and alignment with the IPC's goals.

Promoting a culture of safety and managing psychosocial risks, particularly in complaint-handling functions.

About you

You're a strategic and driven leader with a passion for public sector integrity and regulatory impact. You bring senior leadership experience in regulatory, legal, audit, or compliance environments, along with a strong understanding of information access and privacy regulation.

The successful applicant will enjoy diverse and challenging work in a collaborative team environment.

To be successful in this role you will have:

Demonstrated tertiary qualifications such as law, government, public policy and/or equivalent professional experience.

Highly developed knowledge of the NSW framework for privacy and information access regulation.

Understanding of the role of independent integrity agencies within the public sector.

Extensive knowledge and experience in administrative decision-making in a public sector context.

Proven experience in regulating complex and diverse entities.

Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams in a regulatory, governance, or oversight context.
