Exceptional Kangaroo Island, a premier eco-tourism operator based in South Australia,seek experienced and passionate Tour Guides to join our team. We are hiring for multiple positions, including a Senior Guide with operational and leadership experience, and Regional Guides focused on delivering world-class wildlife and nature-based experiences.

Our tours are designed to reflect the highest standards of sustainable tourism, combining wildlife encounters, gourmet food and wine, and authentic local culture — all delivered with personalised service in a safari-style setting.

Senior Tour Guide – Operational & Safari Experience Focus

The Senior Guide role is ideal for a highly skilled professional with a strong background in safari operations, ideally from Australia or international destinations with demonstrated remote logistics and wildlife-based tourism experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead immersive, interpretive small-group tours across Kangaroo Island’s national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, private properties, and coastal landscapes.

Oversee operational elements of our guided experiences, including:

Camp and accommodation coordination

Catering logistics and provisioning

Vehicle scheduling, safety, and maintenance

Photography and guest content systems

Guide recruitment, training, and performance management

Ensure all aspects of guest experience meet the company’s high standards for quality, safety, and sustainability.

Essential Criteria:

Minimum 3 years’ safari guiding or tour management experience in a wildlife or nature-based setting.

Demonstrated skills in operational coordination and remote logistics.

Industry-recognised wildlife guide training

Experience working with high-end or luxury tourism clientele.

Excellent interpersonal, storytelling, and interpretive communication skills.

Full driver’s licence and current First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

South Australian Passenger Transport Driver Accreditation

Proven ability to mentor and lead small teams in remote environments.

Regional Tour Guide – Wildlife & Nature Specialist

As a Regional Guide, you will deliver engaging day tours and multi-day itineraries that explore the natural and cultural heritage of Kangaroo Island.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct informative and inspiring guided experiences focused on local wildlife, ecology, and culture.

Safely operate 4WD tour vehicles and maintain daily checklists.

Provide outstanding hospitality and interpretive storytelling throughout the tour.

Represent Exceptional Kangaroo Island’s values of sustainability, excellence, and local knowledge.

Requirements:

At least 2 years of experience in guiding, interpretation, or customer service in a tourism setting.

Strong interest or background in ecology, conservation, or natural history.

Confident communication and public speaking skills.

Manual driver’s licence and First Aid certificate (or ability to obtain).

South Australian Passenger Transport Driver Accreditation

Flexible approach to rosters, including weekends and public holidays.
