About the role
The role of the Student Engineer is to provide engineering support to the Design & Infrastructure team. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop a partnership with your university while receiving professional engineering training on-the-job within a local government setting.
You will work closely with the Design and Drainage Team Leader, acting as a frontline champion for excellent customer service to stakeholders and clients, while gaining valuable insight into the lifecycle management of community assets.
Responsibilities
Assisting in tasks generally undertaken by the Design & Drainage Team.
Under the supervision of an Engineer, conduct on-site inspections, record observations and results of investigations.
Develop skills in AUTOCAD and other civil design software.
Assist in the collection of data, including traffic asset condition audits and conducting manual traffic counts, under supervision
Assist in undertaking investigations of engineering matters that may arise from Letters, Council meetings and telephone enquiries in consultation with a supervisor.
Undertaking general office duties including plan copying, drafting letters and reports under supervision.
Support the Engineering Surveyor in conducting surveys.
Collect data for Council’s asset management system and AAS27 reporting requirements
Requirements
Currently undertaking studies towards the completion of a Civil Engineering Degree and with at least first year completed.
Current NSW Class C Driver’s Licence.
Construction industry (white) card.
Ability to translate research and investigation into clearly defined, practical solutions.
Competent in the use of basic surveying equipment.
Good analytical skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills
General computer literacy and competency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
