About the role

We are seeking an experienced Governance & Assurance Manager to lead and deliver governance, assurance and reporting services to IT projects. Reporting to Head of IT PMO within IT Delivery, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to ensure success.

This a newly created role and provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the University's strategic priorities by managing enhanced operational efficiency, improved stakeholder experience, and delivery of measurable outcomes.

You will lead a high performing team to successfully deliver the necessary support to various IT programs and projects, solving complex situations in collaboration with IT PMO colleagues and stakeholders, championing a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery of governance, assurance and reporting services for IT Delivery from initiation to completion, including the transition to operational ownership, ensuring successful project delivery that meets high-quality standards and the University's reporting and governance standards for the delivery of change.
  • Develop, implement and monitor governance and assurance processes and policies, and support the integration of program governance and assurance structures and processes with established structures, including conducting risk assessments and providing assurance through audits and evaluations.
  • Work closely with Program/Project Managers to provide expert guidance and support to enable successful project delivery in line with the project lifecycle framework (PLF), the University's standardised approach for the delivery of IT projects.
  • Responsible for the development, maintenance, and documentation of processes and supporting information associated with the PLF.
  • Build and maintain key relationships and collaborate with business partners, owners, and stakeholders across various levels to align project delivery objectives with the University's goals and standards.
  • Communicate and report on project progress, challenges and outcomes effectively to PMO team members, stakeholders, and leadership.

About You

You are an experienced Governance & Assurance Manager or equivalent, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse teams. You have a proven ability in leading a team, can effectively achieve desired outcomes, and adapt to changing circumstances.

Selection criteria

  • Relevant degree in a related discipline (e.g., IT, Business, Project Management, Project Governance) and/or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced understanding of project governance processes and procedures.
  • A proven track record in successfully managing or governing complex projects and programs, engaging with multiple stakeholders and across a wide range of disciplines.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities to deliver to deadlines
  • Proven ability to effectively influence and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Strong analytical skills, high attention to detail with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated experience in reviewing and improving processes to streamline and achieve efficiency.

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, with relevant certifications (eg. PMP, PRINCE2, Agile).
  • Previous experience working in the higher education, research, or similar sectors.
