As Ranger in Charge (RIC), you will lead a small team and coordinate the planning and delivery of operational work programs within the Boodjamulla Work Unit, which includes Boodjamulla National Park (Aboriginal Land), Wiliyan-ngurru and Finucane Island national parks and Royton Timber Reserve.

You will be responsible for planning and undertaking fire, pest and compliance activities; implementing work programs; and maintaining park infrastructure, including boundary fences and walking tracks. Visitor management is a large component of this role, given the popularity of Lawn Hill Gorge and the Riversleigh World Heritage Area. Undertaking administrative and reporting functions including program management and reporting, financial and budget management, and human resource management are regular requirements of the role.

As RIC, you will:
• manage the day to day operations of the work unit
• develop and implement operational plans consistent with business plans, strategies, policies and procedures
• manage and supervise staff, contractors and volunteers - including the management of performance issues
• grow your and your team's skills and capabilities
• manage the work unit budget and expenditure
• ensure employee and visitor safety
• respond to critical incidents
• undertake visitor, fire and pest planning and management activities
• implement and enforce legislation administered by the Department
• establish partnerships that assist operations and achieve objectives and outcomes of the regional business plan
• communicate regularly with stakeholders, community groups and visitors to create a greater understanding and appreciation of the Department and its role
• negotiate with stakeholders, neighbours and community groups to achieve acceptable resolution of local land management issues
• perform other assigned duties at the classification level within your competence and training.

The RIC is an appointed member of the Cooperative Management Council (CMC) for Boodjamulla National Park (Aboriginal Land) - the board of management responsible for implementing the Boodjamulla park management plan in accordance with the formal management agreement between the Queensland Government and the Waanyi Prescribed Body Corporate. It is a particularly exciting time for the CMC, as they are collaboratively re-designing and reconstructing the Ranger Base and key visitor assets following major flooding in 2023.

Initially, this position will be based in Mount Isa and travel by vehicle to estates within the Boodjamulla work unit. Temporary accommodation will be provided at Mount Isa and Boodjamulla during this time. Work unit staff will relocate back to Boodjamulla in late 2024/early 2025, once housing at the Ranger Base has been re-established.

Further your leadership skills. Measure your own success through the achievements of your team. Work in partnership with Traditional Owners looking after Country. Continue to grow and leverage your knowledge in natural resource management and conservation. Collaborate with others in the redesign and redevelopment of Lawn Hill Gorge.

Contact the panel chair to seek further information about the role.

To be considered you must provide:
* your current resume (max 4 pages)
* a 1-2 page statement demonstrating your ability or potential to fulfil the requirements.
* information to help us understand how you could contribute to our workforce diversity.
* evidence that you meet the mandatory requirements.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
