As a OO5 Ranger in the Pest Management team, you will assist the Senior Ranger to plan, assess and support delivery of the Region's pest management program and projects.

You will be actively involved in onground weed and feral animal control projects, attend and participate in stakeholder meetings, maintain productive relationships with Traditional Owners and other interested parties, and provide technical support and mentoring for Central Region staff. You will regularly work on various protected areas, state forests and newly acquired lands across the central belt of Queensland.

It will be essential that you already hold a manual driver's licence and are willing and able to travel to, work and camp overnight in semi-remote and remote locations. While you do not need any tertiary qualifications, a formal qualification in a relevant discipline would be highly regarded; as would a certification to use agricultural chemicals and poisons, possession of a Queensland weapons licence and experience using geographic information systems (GIS applications).

Depending on the task, you may be required to lead a team, be part of a team or work alone. At times, you will oversee the work of external contractors, other rangers and volunteers - so you must be able to communicate clearly and maintain a positive and supportive approach within a team environment.

Travel to and camping overnight in semi-remote and remote locations within the Region for up to a week or two at a time is a regular requirement of this role. Conditions can be challenging at times - work may be undertaken in hot, cold or wet weather and it may be necessary to climb steep slopes and rough terrain on occasion. You must be organised, practical, situationally aware, able to think on your feet, familiar with remote area operations and comfortable being isolated from time to time.

While a large component of the work will be field-based, the position holder also undertakes administrative, procurement and reporting duties. The position may also provide support during Regional disaster response and recovery efforts.

To join our team as a OO5 Ranger, you must have the following skills:
• Supervisory experience.
• An ability to work with others to plan and deliver annual work programs and conservation or land management projects.
• Administrative skills - for compiling reports, maintaining records and using computer systems and applications.
• Experience managing budgets and procuring goods and services.
• Well-developed communication skills - to respond to stakeholder queries and provide technical advice to operational teams.
• Ability to establish and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including Traditional Owners, park neighbours, NRM groups and other government departments
• Experience operating and maintaining plant and equipment (or the ability to rapidly acquire).
• A willingness to support and promote the interests of First Nations people.

No accommodation is provided.

Applications will remain current for 12 months.
