The Opportunity:
We’re seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to support the Psychiatric Emergency Service (PES), including the Mental Health Intensive Care Unit (MHICU) and Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC). Flexible shifts are available from June to August 2025, including full weeks or ad hoc coverage.

The Clinical Scope:
You’ll manage patients in both MHICU (8 beds) and PECC (4 short-stay beds)—the high-acuity, front-door unit to the 100-bed Mater Mental Health Centre in Newcastle.

• Support psychiatry registrars in patient assessment and management planning
• Collaborate with ED, toxicology, and community mental health teams
• Work with self-presenting patients, emergency referrals, and statewide MHICU admissions
• Community clinics may be scheduled 1–2 days/week

Your expertise in acute mental health, triage, and multidisciplinary collaboration will be essential in this fast-paced and deeply rewarding setting.

Eligibility Requirements:

• FRANZCP or equivalent specialist recognition
• AHPRA Registration
• Full working rights
