Your role at St John of God Subiaco Hospital
You will provide a high standard of patient care, act as a clinical resource and effectively manage resources to deliver quality patient outcomes in anaesthetics.
At St John of God Subiaco Hospital we have 17 main operating theatres and one birth suite theatre. In addition we have two cardiovascular intervention labs, an endoscopy unit with 4 procedure rooms, a surgical same day unit with 3 theatres and a standalone Eye Hospital with 3 theatres. We employ the latest in surgical technology, including robotics, and work with some of the highest calibre surgeons in Australia.
The Position
- Supervise nursing practice and take responsibility for standard of nursing care delivered.
- Act as a clinical resource, maintain and develop clinical skills relevant to area of practice.
- Initiate review and coordinate care of patients with complex health problems.
- Serve as a patient advocate, always protecting the rights and safety of patients.
- Evaluate the quality of nursing practice and participate in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes.
- Ensure the correct use and care of all hospital equipment by self and colleagues.
- Actively contribute to the development of clinical policies and procedures in area of specialty.
- Ensure documentation meets hospital standards and legal requirements.
- Deputise for the Nurse Manager as required.
- Prioritise departmental workloads using resources appropriately and cost effectively.
- Coordinate the department effectively ensuring continuity of care and act on problems encountered.
- Participate in the performance management of caregivers in conjunction with the Nurse Manager.
- Participate in and take responsibility for the education of other caregivers by conducting formal and informal teaching sessions.
- Assist in developing, implementing and reviewing specific departmental orientation programs with Nurse Manager and act as a preceptor as required.
- Organise own work and assist colleagues to complete all care duties by end of shift.
- Supervise the practice of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Patient Care Assistants.
- Assist the Nurse Manager with the submission of annual capital budget and business plans relevant to the Department.
- Review products and equipment and provide documentation and education on evaluation.
- Act as shift coordinator as required and in liaison with the Nurse / After Hours Manager and monitors staffing levels continuously to ensure appropriate numbers of skills staff are available within the agreed productivity targets.
- Contribute to planning, problem solving and change management within the Nursing Division throughout the hospital as required.
- Monitor and promote adherence by caregivers to hospital Policies, procedures and standards.
You will have demonstrated strong leadership ability, working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment with well-developed skills in communication, conflict resolution, negotiation and problem solving.
To succeed you will hold registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse with relevant anaesthetic post registration experience in a perioperative care setting.

- Salary: $103,883 to $110,994 plus 11.5% superannuation
- Full-Time position, working 38 hours per week
