Company Overview

Catholic Schools NSW (CSNSW) represents NSW Catholic schools and their owners to the media, government and other education sector stakeholders. Catholic Schools in NSW educate approximately one in five NSW students.

CSNSW has the following appointments from the Australian and NSW governments:

Approved system authority for funding for the NSW Catholic schools system;

Non-government representative body for NSW Catholic schools; and

Catholic Block Grant Authority in New South Wales.

Under its Constitution, CSNSW acts as the overarching entity for the purposes of advancing education and religion in Catholic schools in NSW and ensures that Catholic schools meet their compliance requirements and can measure their activities in such a way as to maximise the education and faith outcomes of students. The company’s constitution is also backed by canonical mandates of delegation from each of the 11 diocesan bishops in New South Wales who are also the members of the Company.

Employees of CSNSW provide advice (to Government and Schools) on the full range of educational policy and compliance drivers impacting contemporary NSW schooling.

This is a full-time, fixed term position with a requirement to work from our Sydney, CBD office.

Primary Purpose of the role

We are seeking a highly motivated, versatile and detail-oriented Data Analyst to join our team and support Catholic Schools NSW’s mission to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Catholic schools sector. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in transforming data into actionable insights, ensuring accuracy in reporting and analysis, and driving strategic decision-making. This role requires exceptional analytical skills, a passion for precision, proficiency in data analytics tools, and a commitment to continuously improving outcomes through data.

Key responsibilities

The role has a wide variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to:

Data Visualisation: Develop clear and compelling data visualisations, dashboards, and reports to communicate complex findings effectively using a range of tools including PowerBI, Tableau and Excel.

Data Analysis & Reporting: Collect, process, and analyse data to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform business decisions.

Data Preparation, Accuracy & Validation: Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and quality of data through rigorous validation and auditing processes (i.e. data cleaning, cross-checking, updating) in collaboration with the Data and Information Systems team.

Support the preparation of written reports on a range of education analytics topics for the CSNSW Members, Board and relevant sub-committees. Examples of topics include: enrolments; NAPLAN, HSC, VET, school funding and demographics.

Data & analytics support direct to internal and external stakeholders, in various formats such as powerpoint presentations, data visualisations, bespoke datasets with accompanying commentary where required.

General responsibilities include:

Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide tailored solutions.

Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimise data collection, storage, and analysis workflows for greater efficiency in collaboration with the Data and Information Systems team.

Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of methodologies, assumptions, and insights to support transparency and reproducibility.

Essential Requirements

National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014

Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.

Empathy with and support for the mission, ethos and beliefs of Catholic schools and the communities they serve.

Understanding of legislation related to data and information storage eg; Privacy Act, Freedom of Information Act and Data Protection Regulations, Industry Regulations and Compliance mandates.

Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.

Strong problem solving, quantitative and analytical abilities.

Clear communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex data in an understandable format.

Adaptable and eager to learn new tools and methodologies.

Advanced user of Microsoft PowerBI with end-to-end experience developing dashboards in PowerBI.

Proficiency in Tableau preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word.

Knowledge of database management preferred.

Knowledge of R preferred.
