About the Role:
Reporting directly to the Director, the General Manager will be pivotal in overseeing all facets of our daily transport operations. You will be responsible for the strategic and hands-on management of our fleet, drivers, scheduling, safety protocols, and vehicle maintenance programs. Key Responsibilities:
Fleet Operations & Driver Management:
Oversee the daily scheduling and rostering of drivers and vehicles (10+ trucks) to ensure optimal utilisation and timely deliveries.
Lead, mentor, and support our team of professional drivers, fostering a positive and safety-conscious work environment.
Manage driver recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance reviews.
Safety & Compliance:
Champion a robust safety culture, ensuring all operations adhere to National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) standards, WHS regulations, and company policies.
Implement and monitor safety management systems, conduct regular risk assessments, and oversee incident investigations.
Ensure all vehicles and drivers meet compliance requirements (e.g., fatigue management, mass management, maintenance).
Maintenance & Asset Management:
Develop and manage a proactive vehicle maintenance program to ensure fleet reliability, safety, and cost-efficiency.
Coordinate with suppliers and service providers for timely repairs and preventative maintenance.
Oversee record-keeping for all maintenance and compliance activities.
Operational Excellence & Customer Focus:
Continuously identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery.
Liaise with key clients to ensure service expectations are met and exceeded.
Resolve operational issues and customer queries in a timely and professional manner.
Reporting & Administration:
Prepare and present regular reports on operational performance, safety, and budget.
Manage relevant administrative tasks associated with fleet operations.
About You:
As our ideal candidate, you are an energetic and experienced leader with a proven track record in transport and logistics management. You thrive in a dynamic environment and possess:
Essential Experience & Skills:
Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior operational role within the transport/logistics industry, preferably with direct fleet management responsibility.
Demonstrable experience in driver scheduling, fleet maintenance management, and ensuring road transport compliance.
In-depth knowledge of NHVR regulations, fatigue management, CoR (Chain of Responsibility), and WHS legislation relevant to the transport industry.
Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organisational abilities.
Proficient in transport management systems.
A current and valid truck driver's licence is advantageous but not essential.
Desirable Attributes:
A proactive and hands-on approach to management.
Strong commercial acumen and budget management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with drivers, staff, and clients.
A commitment to continuous improvement and best practices in logistics.
Certificate IV or Diploma in Logistics, Transport, or Business Management (or equivalent experience).
