About the role

An exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate Mortgage Litigation Lawyer to join as General Counsel in a full time, permanent position based at Head Office in Surfers Paradise. Remote / hybrid work arrangements are also considered.

The package on offer is commensurate with experience.

Managing the day-to-day conduct on multiple mortgage recovery files.

Drafting and issuing formal correspondence, including letters of demand, default notices, and acceleration notices in line with loan agreements and security documentation.

Negotiating terms of settlement with debtors, guarantors, and opposing counsel, and preparing comprehensive deeds of settlement, payment arrangements, and forbearance agreements.

Instructing and assisting external counsel with the preparation and review of pleadings and other court material.

Experience with AFCA (Australian Financial Complaints Authority) and ASIC (Australian Securities and Investments Commission) regulations is essential.

Assisting settlements team on loan and security documentation for mortgage advances.

Demonstrated ability to respond promptly and professionally in high-pressure situations.

Reporting to CEO and providing timely updates and delivering commercially sound, practical advice.

Providing other general legal support to the CEO and board and instructing specialised counsel as necessary (i.e. organisational dispute resolution).

Qualifications

· Australian legal practitioner and have a minimum of 4+ years PAE.

· Experience in mortgage litigation.

· Strong analytical, legal research and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Efficient, diligent, self-starter.

· Positive, happy attitude and team player.
