CSID Pty Ltd ATF The CSID Trust - Trading As Glynngarth Equine Co are a Queensland based company managing and developing horses for competitive polo playing.

We seek a full-time, live-in Head Horse Trainer/ Farm Manager to work collaboratively with the Directors to ensure the highest level of professional advice, services and technical expertise in preparing horses for optimum performance for competitive polo seasons.

As Head Horse Trainer/ Farm Manager we ask for high quality, hands-on farm management work maintaining livestock, property, plant and equipment, while demonstrating commitment to company policies and values. The successful applicant aspires to continual learning, education and skills improvement in best-practice horse training - preparing horses for optimum performance by managing diets, training, fitness, and well-being.

As Head Horse Trainer/ Farm Manager you will interact with and coordinate; external horse trainers and grooms, suppliers and contractors, farriers, vets, polo players, and key contractors.

Competitive remuneration of $76,515 per annum plus superannuation (currently 11.5%).

Key duties include:

Head Horse Trainer:

Designing, implementing and managing overall horse care schedules for 10-15 horses considering diet, feed, exercise, training, age and well-being.

Designing daily exercise and training routines for individual horses with regard to weight gains/ losses/ required energy for activities –yard work and competition.

Preparing individualised feeds, hay, and water for horses, medicines and/ or nutritional supplements as required.

Undertaking daily training, exercise and pasture time for all horses – concurrent training or individual riding – walk/ trotting/ cantering on set tracks.

Daily grooming of all horses – hosing down, clipping, brushing, applying bandaging, ensuring proper hoof care and coordination of regular farrier visits.

Maintaining and monitoring schedules and health records for all horses, including vaccinations, worming and shoeing.

Monitoring horse health, identifying signs of illness or injury, ensuring up to date knowledge of equine first-aid to identify health issues, and referring to veterinary specialists as required.

Caring for and rehabilitating injured or sick horses.

Preparation of all horses and related equipment, for practice sessions and competition including:

Preparing the horses for travelling, loading and unloading horses from truck.

Transport horses and equipment via truck to practice and matches.

Unpacking equipment, preparing stalls, and acclimatising the horses to the new surroundings.

Brushing and grooming horses for competition - bathing, applying hoof polish, boots, braiding manes and making argy knot for tails, applying mouth grease.

Designing and implementing preparation schedules for Polo match sets to optimise horse and rider performance.

Farm Management - Property, Plant & Equipment Management and Maintenance:

Performing routine checks, adjustments and maintenance of vehicles, plant and equipment – eg trucks, tractors, utes and refer for repairs and general maintenance.

Ensuring Vehicle Maintenance procedures are adhered to.

Undertaking daily checks of water, fencing, and land for hazards – eg poisonous plants. Cleaning and perform (minor) service of water troughs.

Undertaking regular mowing, weeding, and poisoning.

The successful applicant will have the following:

Bachelor’s degree in Equine Studies – or equivalent.

Extensive experience in equine care and management (minimum 5 years)/ equestrian/ polo, preferably with competition level horses.

Excellent horseriding skills and experience including riding and handling horses of various temperaments – could include judging, show jumping.

Farm/ facility management experience.

Current Driver’s Licences – car and medium rigid truck licence and ability to handle farm equipment- eg tractor.

Knowledge and experience of horse nutrition, diet, exercise and training.

Experience with equine first aid – ability to identify illnesses, common ailments and injury and needs for veterinary referral.

Not required but highly desirable:

Heavy Rigid Driver’s Licence

First Aid Certificate
