About the role

Dunk Island Reef Adventures is seeking a passionate and experienced Divemaster and/or Marine Biologist to join our team in the beautiful coastal town of Mission Beach, Queensland. This casual role will involve leading snorkelling tours, educating guests about the local marine environment, and contributing to the ongoing conservation efforts of our eco-friendly tourism business.

Dunk Island Reef Adventures offering premium small group snorkelling operating to the outer reefs via ferry service to Dunk Island.

Role Description

This is an on-site full-time role for a Lead Deckhand & Snorkel Divemaster located in Mission Beach, QLD. The Lead Deckhand & Snorkel Divemaster will be responsible for overseeing vessel operations, managing rigging tasks, and providing exceptional customer service to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for guests. The role includes daily vessel maintenance, assisting with snorkelling operations, briefing guests, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Effective communication with crew and guests is essential for this role.

We are a small team of crew that are multi-talented and involved in all aspects of passengers comfort. Primarily passenger safety at sea and in the water at the reef.

What you'll be doing

Conducting safe and informative snorkelling tours for guests of varying experience levels

Providing detailed information and commentary on the local marine life, habitats and ecosystems

Assisting with the maintenance and upkeep of the vessel equipment

Deckhand and general purpose duties from hospitality/catering for passengers to helping to berth the vessel.

Sometimes cleaning and general maintenance may be involved

Promoting sustainable tourism practices and environmental awareness among guests

You will be required to work over a 7 day roster including most weekends and some public holidays.

Experience desired

Experience in customer service in the maritime industry.

Experience on commercial vessels

Proficiency basic machinery maintenance

Strong communications skills

Ability to work effectively

Qualifications Essential

Current PADI divemaster qualification or greater.

Queensland First Aid / CPR / Advanced Oxygen

Queensland RSA

Queensland Food Handling Level 2

Reef Biology or excellent knowledge of corals and marine life found on the Great Barrier Reef
