The Purpose

The Design Manager leads and manages the Design Team and Pre-Construction Team, overseeing design, drafting, development application and associated processes for Commercial and Industrial Design and Construct Building projects to circa $20million. This role ensures that all designs align with client expectations, project objectives, regulatory and industry compliance and are value engineered for cost-effective buildability and sustainability. The Design Manager plays a crucial role in coordinating internal teams, external engineers and consultants, and key stakeholders to ensure quality design and documentation for seamless project execution.

The Function

Working in collaboration with the Business Development Manager and the Pre-Construction Manager, the Design Manager will interpret the initial project brief, understand key objectives and parameters, and develop the design from initial concept to an executable and documented construction plan. Additionally, the Design Manager will ensure structural drawings, drafting, and documentation are produced to a high standard, and manage workflow and project deadlines to maintain on-time and on-budget completion. This will involve staying up to date with building legislation, codes of practice relating to the design process, reviewing designs for health, safety and compliance with regulations, and mitigate design errors and financial and construction risks.

The Person

We are seeking an individual with around 7 to 10 years' Australian experience in an architectural design and drafting management role with experience in managing commercial and industrial building design projects throughout the entire design development and construction lifecycle. Your leadership and management skills and knowledge of design processes, documentation, and compliance, combined with your ability to manage client expectations and collaborate effectively with all stakeholders will be clearly discernable. You will likely have a bachelor degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with Australian building codes, standards, and compliance requirements will be mandatory. Proficiency in design and project management software, such as AutoCAD and Revit, will be necessary and additional experience with Navisworks and Microsoft Project may be well regarded.
