ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a unique opportunity to lead one of the most impactful portfolios in the organisation - where law enforcement, rescue response, and community outreach intersect. As General Manager – Inspectorate, Rescue & Community, you’ll oversee the operational delivery of animal cruelty investigations, prosecutions, animal rescue, education and strategic prevention programs.

With eight direct reports, you’ll lead teams working on the frontline - many in high-stress and emotionally charged environments, and ensure they’re equipped, supported, and aligned with best practice. You’ll also be a key voice externally, representing the organisation to government, regulatory bodies and law enforcement to influence better animal welfare outcomes.

This role requires a strategic leader who can balance compassion and accountability - uplifting culture, improving systems, and leading people through purpose, process and performance.

DUTIES

• Lead, coach and support eight direct reports across inspectorate, rescue and community teams
• Shape and deliver education and prevention strategies in vulnerable communities
• Oversee cruelty investigations, legal compliance, prosecutions and regulatory partnerships
• Build trusted relationships with government, councils, law enforcement and community orgs
• Ensure safety, wellbeing and development are embedded in frontline team culture
• Improve reporting, risk management and operational processes
• Represent the organisation publicly and advocate for positive animal welfare outcomes
• Contribute to whole-of-organisation strategy as part of the SLT

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

We’re looking for a confident, compassionate leader with a background in animal welfare, compliance, law enforcement, or a closely aligned sector. You’ll have the gravitas to represent the organisation in senior forums, the empathy to lead teams in high-stress roles, and the clarity to improve how services are delivered. If you’ve led frontline or regulatory teams, care deeply about making a difference, and thrive in complex, mission-led environments, this role could be your next chapter.

• Senior leadership experience in regulatory, enforcement, rescue or community operations
• Proven track record of uplifting culture and performance in frontline teams
• Deep understanding of compliance, governance and risk management
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills – especially with government and law enforcement
• Experience with prosecutions, investigations or animal welfare (ideal)
• Resilient, empathetic leadership style with a clear connection to purpose
• Tertiary qualifications in business, management, compliance, investigations or law (advantageous)
