About the role

As the City’s Coordinator Recreation, you will drive strategic planning and delivery of recreation services and community facilities that respond to the evolving needs of Canning’s diverse community. Importantly you’ll lead a team of community sport & recreation development professionals and lead community engagement processes to remain abreast of current and future needs.

Reporting to the Manager Recreation & Leisure Services, this is a permanent full-time role in a forward-thinking local council. What you will be doing

Developing and implementing strategic plans and policies that guide the City’s approach to community infrastructure and recreation programs

Monitoring trends in sport, recreation, and open spaces to provide advice and solutions that address the City's long-term needs

Leading engagement with key stakeholders, including community groups, government agencies, sporting clubs, and residents, to identify existing and emerging recreation and facility needs

Managing and delivering key projects, including the those identified in the City’s Community Infrastructure Plan and Recreation Plan

Fostering strategic partnerships with external stakeholders to enhance service delivery and investment in community recreation

Leading and mentoring a team of passionate professionals!

Who we’re looking for:

You’re an experienced leader in recreation, sport, or community planning. You bring a strong understanding of strategic planning processes, stakeholder consultation, and the role of recreation in community wellbeing. You’re experienced in managing projects and have a passion for creating inclusive and sustainable community sports and recreation facilities, infrastructure, services and programs.

Strategic Thinker - Advanced level experience in developing and delivering strategic plans and policies

Proven Project Management Skills – Strong track record of successfully delivering projects on time, within scope and to community expectations

Community Consultant - Able to lead and manage community consultation processes, build trust with stakeholders, and ensure the City is responsive to community needs and aspirations

Leadership ability to lead and develop a team for high performance

Highly Effective Communicator - You confidently engage and facilitate across diverse audiences, manage opposing opinions, as well as write professionally and concisely

Tertiary qualifications in sport, recreation, planning or a related discipline

Able to provide a Satisfactory National Police Clearance
