Our quest:

Hello. We’re The Y WA.

We’re a global brand, but we’re also that local (Not-For-Profit), that believes in the power of inspired young people. It’s a bold statement, but it’s true. Just ask our amazing young people who use our range of youth services across WA. Our young people in Newman (WA) will probably tell you about our Education Engagement & Attainment Initiative (EEAI). We provide a wide range of support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families with an inherent quest in improving school attendance and academic achievement. Look it up! Copy this link to your browser: ymcawa.org.au/what-we-do/community-services/education-engagement-attainment-initiative None of this would be possible without our dedicated and talented Y-people.

Now that we’re in full swing with program activities we’re looking for another School Engagement Officer (on a casual basis) to join the team and truly engage with our young people and families. But why join The Y? Check out our awesome perks below:

Your awesome perks:

  • $46.69 to $50.06 + 11.5% Super per hour
  • Plus, $6.30 per hour remote allowance (up to $12,285 per yr)
  • Plus, overtime paid
  • Plus, Salary Packaging Benefits (claim up to $18,550 per yr)
  • Work Mon to Fri (morning & afternoon shifts) and enjoy your weekends off!
  • Generous corporate healthcare discounts (up to 8%)
  • Genuine mentorship, training, and professional support
  • $500 - Refer a friend incentive
  • Work for a WA based Non-For-Profit making a real difference in our local community with unwavering focus and commitment to safeguarding children and young people

What you’ll be doing

This will depend on your previous experience. You might be kind-of new to the community and youth services sector but comfortable in driving a 12-seater van. You’ll spend the first few days learning the ropes. Don’t stress, you’ll have a great mentor to work with. To start you’ll assist your EEAI Coordinator with logistics while establishing relationships with students and their families. Once you’ve settled in, you’ll then take ownership of some school attendance pick ups and drop offs, support students to have positive educational experiences at school (& outside of school) and help families be the centre of their children’s education. Sounds Interesting? Check out the JD attached below.

You’ll be great in this role if you…

  • Get a buzz when making a meaningful and positive impact with young people and families
  • Have excellent people skills with the ability to relate with students, parents, teachers, community leaders & external agencies
  • Hold a strong indigenous cultural awareness and knowledge of local cultures
  • Have a knack for bringing people together and fostering positive relationships between stakeholders
  • Previous experience and/or confidence in driving a 12-seater van safely
  • Hold an Australian driver’s licence (WA C class or equivalent)
  • Can obtain a National Police Certificate and Working with Children card

If you’ve worked with & enjoy engaging with culturally diverse young people including Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders, we would welcome your application.
