BNTAC is seeking a Finance & Payroll Officer to support our dedicated Finance team in delivering accurate, timely, and culturally respectful financial services. About Us

We are a progressive Native Title organisation dedicated to advocating for the rights and advancement of Traditional Owners. With over 45 employees and a turnover of $20 million, we play a critical role in managing projects, governance, and community initiatives in partnership with stakeholders across the Pilbara and beyond.

Process meeting payroll in line with policy and deadlines.

Ensure travel and allowances align with ATO guidelines.

Issue and track purchase orders for meetings and NT projects.

Assist with advance payments and committee member record management.

Respond to finance-related queries from NT Project teams.

About the Role

The primary objective of this role is to provide an excellent level of financial record keeping for BNTAC, through efficient; accurate processing, recording, reporting, lodgement and management of financial transactions.

Key Responsibilities

🧾 Meetings & Payments

Process meeting payroll in line with policy and deadlines.

Ensure travel and allowances align with ATO guidelines.

Issue and track purchase orders for meetings and NT projects.

Assist with advance payments and committee member record management.

Respond to finance-related queries from NT Project teams.

💳 Accounts Receivable

Issue and reconcile meeting and project invoices per contracts and POs.

Prepare funding acquittals and supporting documentation.

Manage Accounts Receivable ledger and track overdue invoices.

Handle billing discrepancies, credit memos, and customer inquiries.

📅 Month-End

Assist in preparing and posting EOM journals and reconciliations.

Reconcile advance drawdowns and maintain audit-ready records.

Support accurate and timely bank and credit card reconciliations.

📂 General Finance & Support

Provide cover for Accounts Payable and Payroll as needed.

Ensure accurate coding of expenses and alignment with project budgets.

Learn and support colleague responsibilities for team continuity.

Train team members to ensure resilience and continuity in operations.

Deliver courteous, culturally respectful service to Traditional Owners.

Selection Criteria:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting

2+ years' experience in finance, payroll, or accounts within a mid-sized organisation

Not-for-profit or Native Title sector experience highly regarded

Strong knowledge of accounting systems (Xero, ExpenseMe, etc.) and Excel

Excellent reconciliation, data entry, and invoice management skills

Ability to interpret and apply travel allowance and tax regulations

High attention to detail and time management

Culturally sensitive and able to build trust with Indigenous stakeholders.
