A day in the life of a Residential Accommodation Disability Support worker at Yooralla.

So what will you actually be doing as a Disability Support Worker (DSW) in Residential Accommodation - Clayton? This rewarding part-time or full time role supports adults with disability one-on-one or in small groups, in their homes and occasionally in the community. You will work closely with individuals to implement personalised support plans that help them live as independently as possible. No one workday (or night) will be the same!

At our Clayton service, you’ll be joining a warm, stable and long-standing team who have supported this home for many years. This vacancy has become available as one of our valued team members is relocating to pursue her dreams – a rare opportunity to join this established and committed team.

There are five residents living at this home, aged between 33 and 75. You’ll be supporting them with a strong focus on active daily living, Respecting choice, control and Independence and supports with personal care, including:

Meal preparation, personal hygiene and mobility

Shopping, attending appointments, and going to community events

Working towards their individual goals

Encouraging independence while ensuring comfort and dignity

This is a High Intensity Support service, although the current support needs are stable and at the lower end of the spectrum. The goal is to maintain this stability and help residents continue thriving in a safe, supportive environment.

The vacant shifts span Monday to Sunday, typically between 6:30am and 10:00pm. We're happy to consider students, as long as your availability is consistent and won’t change each semester.

About You

We're looking for people who are passionate, have a great attitude and an eagerness to learn. You'll share Yooralla’s values and have:

  • a positive approach, initiative and self-motivation
  • willingness to be committed to empowering our clients to reach their goals, and to upholding quality and safeguards in your everyday work
  • effective communication skills, and good English literacy to communicate well with our clients
  • ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team
  • willingness to support clients with personal care activities
  • Australian Driver License
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check clearance and the right to work in Australia, and,
  • The ability to get a First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certificate if you don’t already have one.

A Certificate IV in Disability, relevant work experience or an interest in community services would be great, if you already have any of these. If not, don’t worry as Yooralla provides excellent training and support, and can even support you to work and study. You may even find you have some transferable skills to bring to the role.
